Fall River —
The famed Abbey Grill appears to be in hot water as the bank holding its mortgage has announced the building at 100 Rock St. will be auctioned off.According to a legal notice placed in Thursday’s Herald News, the majestic Rock Street building is being foreclosed on due to a “breach of the conditions†regarding the building’s mortgage, held by Millennium bcpbank.
The notice indicates an auction of the building will take place at 11 a.m. on March 26.
A woman who answered the phone at the International Institute of Culinary Arts — the teaching school owned by Abbey Grill operator George Karousos — Thursday said Karousos was meeting with attorneys regarding the foreclosure notice. She said staff at the facility had just learned of the potential foreclosure earlier in the day when someone presented the notice to Karousos during a class.
Karousos did not return a message seeking comment and calls made to his home went unanswered.
