Fall River Historical Society Seeking Artists
By Deborah Allard
The Fall River Historical Society is seeking artists to take part in Pallette Pictures II, its second annual benefit exhibit.
Professional working artists will be asked to create an original work of art on a 5-by-7-inch canvas or panel provided by the Historical Society, and submit it to be auctioned off by the Society.
“I think it gives the artists great exposure and benefits the museum,†said Kathy Rockett, a Historical Society board member.
Last year, 52 artists participated in the exhibit and raised $5,000 for the society.
The artists painted, embellished, drew, glued and generally created unique art pieces for purchase.
“The vast majority of artists from last year signed up again,†Historical Society Curator Michael Martins said.
The Historical Society changed the artists’ canvas this year from palettes to canvas and panels to keep the exhibit fresh.
“We thought it would be interesting to mix it up,†Martins said. “The canvases and panels are small. It’s a challenge for the artists.â€
The artists may choose any theme they wish.
“It really isn’t limited to any particular medium,†Martins said.
The art work is due Nov. 16. An opening night is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20. Many artists will attend for networking and meeting with the public.
All of the pieces will be presented on the Historical Society’s website at www.fallriverhistorical.org, along with a biography of each artist and artist links.
Bidding will begin on opening night and will conclude shortly before Christmas so the artwork may be given as Christmas gifts. Bidding may be done in person at the museum at 451 Rock St., or by phone.
