Here is a picture of the front of the Hooper house from 2000. Looks very much the classic "haunted house".
Looks like not much has changed in 8 years!

That's awful.
I bet if there are probs with the roof, they also have probs with bats!
Such a shame, as it could be a wonderful house!

A daunting task, Michael, but the expenditure of all of that energy is justified when one views your results - nice job!

Unbelievable! I almost run off the road every time I go down French Street now, gawking and oogling at the improvements. Paint colors are perfect and really show off the architectural ornamentation.

Michael, I have to say, the window you did came out just spectacular. What a difference. It is truly a labor of love. I can't wait to see it the next time we are in Fall River.

William Hooper was a cotton broker who lived 3 houses up from Maplecroft.
The Hooper house was much bigger than Maplecroft, much bigger. Also the design was very different. Built in the in the mid 1870s it was built along the French Second Empire design with a mansard and elaborately decorated with tons and tons of massive corbels. Quite the building in its time.
The owner has been working on it for over 16 years, though I have probably spent more money than he has in one week on my place.
This week he is working on the old Carriage House. Most of its trim has been stripped off and side walls covered with vinyl. This week he was working on the soffits and gutters of the Carriage House. Massive decorative corbels have been bashed, hammered off and smooth vinyl put in their place.
Now it looks like the cupola on top of the Carriage House is being dismantled and demolished.
I would like to think that they are working on it to rehab it.
But, don't think so.
Sad.
