Kat, where did Andrew Jennings grow-up? If it was Fall River, perhaps he knew Emma from the school system, he did say something about them being close in age. If Jennings ever payed any business calls at the Borden house and Emma was around, they may have talked. Then, there is the other thought, that perhaps with Emma as the eldest child, Andrew may have felt that Emma need learn about his business dealings to some extent and brought her along when he visited Jennings?

Theebmonique made a comment about split personalities and asked a question.
I just saw last night on TV the defense of a man at trial for molesting women (among other things) was MPD.
He was *diagnosed*, supposedly, while in prison, by a social psychologist or psychiatrist as having 23 personalities.
Now, to me, that's going overboard- too extreme.
I have always questioned such a state of being and the commentator was saying that current thought on the matter is that even the most famous case of Sybil, was a sham.
I tend to believe this- I have always doubted such a thing as a mutiple...it's too *convenient*.
This new book, The Dark Side of Lizzie Borden, has Lizzie as a multiple- I couldn't finish it. That's my opinion, but it sounds as if medicine is taking another, more critical look at this supposed phenonmenom.

Susan you read my mind! That was what I was wondering, short of Jennings having to defend Emma in some courtroom somewhere- that maybe Andrew did attempt to introduce Emma to his business dealings, especially if he was to have no son, and Lurana was to have no son* and he disliked his brother-in-law Hiram.
*edit here:
To be precise, Lurana & Hiram had a son George, September 1857- March 1867, died of brain disease. No other children.

If this is the case, I wonder if Emma had an apptitude for business? Did she know of
all the business dealings Andrew had a hand in? Did she secretly clutch this knowledge to her breast or perhaps share it with Lizzie? I would imagine the only other person in the household who may have been privy to such information would be Abby, I would think he would have to boast of his accomplishments to someone?
Emma may have had councel later on in life, but, I keep thinking about the issue where she wanted to sell off her portion of one of her father's propertys, perhaps during or after the stock market crash and Lizzie nixed the idea of selling her any of her father's estate. Sounds like she may have had some smarts in the business world.

From The Secret Language of Birthdays, partial, for a birthdate of near midnight, info for March 2, even tho Emma was born March 1st:
"The highly dependable individuals born on March 2 display an unusually strong sense of loyalty which can manifest in relation to their family, friends, nation or perhaps a higher cause. Those born on this day tend to hold the object of their passion in the greatest esteem, even to grant it adoration or worship. Rarely or ever will they forsake their commitments once they have given themselves fully.
But it is precisely their unswerving loyalty that can present problems for March 2 people. It can be pretty uncomfortable at times for others to be the object of such feelings; in fact, care, concern or devotion can both be a source of great security and inhibition to those involved with them. As parents, those born on this day may experience difficulties with sons or daughters who hold a contrary value system and wish to be free to go their own way. More highly developed March 2 people do not lock others into static roles, but allow for change in family, friends, and those they admire."
--Maybe this is why the girls split. Lizzie was essentially of another generation and tho Emma was loyal, Lizzie held a "contrary value system and wish(ed) to be free to go [her]...own way."

Thanks, Kat. I found some stuff on Emma in my book; The Power of Birthdays, Stars and Numbers:
March 2
Until you reach the age of eighteen your progressed Sun moves through Pisces, placing empahsis in your sensitivity, emotional developement, and dreams for the future. While you are between the ages of nineteen and forty-eight, your progressed Sun moves through Aries. This influence suggests that you gradually develop your self-confidence and assertiveness, and you enjoy being active and adventurous. This is a good time to take the initiative and learn to be more straightforward. After the age of forty-nine, when your progressed Sun moves into Taurus, you may become more emotionally steady and practical. There is also an increased need to be established and financially secure as well as to be nourished by beauty and nature.
Work & Vocation
Having power and innate business acumen suggests that you can achieve much in life, although you may be happier if your plans include your natural sense of vision. Although personal fulfillment comes through work and productive activities, you may need to avoid taking on too much.

Kat @ Fri Apr 23, 2004 5:32 pm wrote:It always seemed odd that Emma cleaned the blood off the Parlour door but not from anywhere else- and against Dr. Dolan's orders and she was expecting a funeral in the sitting room on Saturday. The implication is that Emma did not clean up anywhere else until she was given permission.
Why the parlour door? The parlour was the best room? Kept locked by Abby? Was Emma of the same possessiveness of that parlour? Did it stand for something?
The story was written by a woman, about a woman suspected of a crime of bloody murder- in 1895. I figured if this author could think of this approach, Lizzie could think of it- maybe not Emma- but Lizzie could have influenced Emma from jail to doeverything possible to solve the case.
There was blood on the "Parlour Door?" Thats a new one on me. I'm going to have to dig into this one.
