I was thinking this morning while watching the news items about Ms. Bancroft that she was what I would call truly beautiful. Not only was she pleasing to look at during all stages of her life, but she didn't look as if her face had been remodeled to suit the fashions of the times. Her birth name was also beautiful: Anna Maria (Louisa) Italiano. I guess she thought "Anne Bancroft" sounded more like a serious actress. Or maybe her original name was too ethnic for some. A class act all the way.

She was one of my favorites. In her obituary she was quoted in a 2003 interview as saying that nobody ever talks to her about her role in The Miracle Worker - it's always people talking about "The Graduate".
I wonder what kind of cancer she had. The paper didn't say.

A few websites are specifying it was uterine cancer.
She really did come off as a very classy lady, didn't she -- and as someone who enjoyed life and knew how to laugh ...
