Terribly rushed right now, no time to catch up on posts but I wanted to follow up with the Hannah B. Nelson reference. I'm doing this very fast as we have a plane to catch. Hope this works.

This didn't come out right. I'll fix it when we get back. We're off to London for a week. I'm so sorry for the screwup. I tried editing three times! No time left. My apologies. I'll get it right when next I'm here.

Greetings from Picadilly! LOL
As promised, here's the article, and also one of the letters in full.

You can read it best by saving it to your desktop, open with image editor and use the magnifying glass. Or, I could post the translation, but the first way is more fun.

And Lizzie's letter written to her friend, Amanda, called "Manda" regarding Hannah B. Nelson.
(in two parts)

...and pages 3 and 4.
Now, first one to guess who provided these bits of correspondence to Gateway Magazine (published summer of 1997) gets a photo copy of a letter received by Helen Leighton written by Lizzie in 1926.
Posted: Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:42 pm
by FairhavenGuy
For those of you who might not be familiar with it, the "Gateway, 1997" business at the top of these pages refers to "Gateway to Cape Cod," an annual tourists guide published each summer by Hathaway Publishing Corp. of Somerset, MA, which owns four weekly newspapers in the area.
I edited Gateway myself for several years when I worked for Hathaway Publishing in the 1980s. (A couple of my brief articles on Lizzie and the FRHS are noted in Rebello by their titles only--my byline didn't appear on them.)
After I left, Linda Andrade Roderiques, another Hathaway employee who had written some Gateway stories for me, became editor of the publication. I'm quite certain Linda was editing when these letters were published. She included a lot of Lizzie material in Gateway and also wrote some articles related to Lizzie in The Spectator, the weekly newspaper in Somerset that's owned by Hathaway Publishing.
Just a bit of extra background here, that's all.

Absolutely correct, FairhavenGuy!

My subscription to NexisLexis has long served me well in finding these obscure publications which occasionally lead me to Lizzie gems not to be found in “primary source” documents. However, by giving Linda’s name, which I deliberately blocked out, you make it so much easier for one to find out who provided the correspondence I posted. So seeing as it would be too simple to Google her, get her email and write and inquire, I’ll just spill the beans here and perhaps later post the Leighton letter anyway.
Linda’s transcription cites Lewis “Pete” Peterson, former Assistant Director of Barnstable Country Criminal Bureau. That will ring a bell with anyone who’s ever read Arnold Brown’s book. The 15 degrees of separation goes this way: (cite: Brown, p13, 14, 287)
Ellan Eagan had a daughter named Mary who married Henry Hawthorne. Henry and Mary had twin girls. One of the girls, Dorothy, married Lewis “Pete” Peterson. So Henry Hawthorne was Peterson’s father-in-law. Hawthorne told Peterson the story Arnold Brown laid out in his book, Lizzie Borden, The Legend, the Truth, the Final Chapter. Brown tells us Peterson loaned him his father-in-law’s written notes, admittedly a rambling account. So it is possible that Henry got much of his information from his mother-in-law, Ellan Eagan. And coupled with his assertion of having lived on the farm of William “The Illegimate Bad Boy” Borden when a small lad (and his father was tenant)…..well, there ya go. A yarn to be spun indeed.
I can understand why Pete Peterson would believe it, and then, initially, early on, even Arnold Brown. Pete Peterson must have believed in the Billy Borden theory because Arnold Brown’s book was published while he was still alive. Indeed, Peterson only died a few years ago. Now here’s where I see a romantic juxtaposition past it’s possibility: Consider if Henry Hawthorne had met Ruby Cameron and they had gotten married. Sweet symmetry of delusional souls. Arm in arm, hand in hand, they would have walked gently into that golden sunset. And the secrets of the legend, their truths, and of course, their final chapter. Adieu sweet Henry. Adieu sweet Ruby. Meanwhile, one wonders if Peterson’s children have other Lizzie letters. Betcha.
The real question to all of this, i.e., the correspondence, is who is “Manda”, i.e., “Amanda”? Since Pete acquired the correspondence for Linda’s article and Linda gives us clues, could it have been a friend of Mary’s, Ellan’s daughter? The age would fit. A friend, not Mary herself. And while it seems unlikely Lizzie would have found friendship sprung from that genetic pool, it is still possible.
The article, in referring to the woman who decided to share these documents, via Pete Peterson, states: “Her mother was one of Lizzie Borden’s closest friends; and consequently, she and her sister spent a great deal of time in her company.” Now that can be interpreted two or three ways. “she and her sister” meaning Lizzie and Emma or “she and her sister” meaning this unknown woman and her sister. Or was it this woman’s own mother who had a sister and her mother and her mother’s sister (this woman’s aunt) spent a great deal of time in her (Lizzie's) company. See what I mean? My 3 x 5 card on these letters has another notation: “Linda Andrade Rodriques says she never met the woman who had possession of the letters. Copies were given to her by Pete Peterson.” So who is Amanda? No Amanda named in Lizzie’s Will, I already checked, but she could have been a daughter of one of Lizzie’s direct legatees who in turn, had a child who is, in fact, this woman. Hence, the “my mother…..”
Tis a never-ending spool of thread that tangles in our mind, is it not, this mystifying case?

Berky...
I wish I had known you were going to London! I could have arranged for you to stay in the apartment my mama has in Knightsbridge. My papa traveled a great deal for his business and never could tolerate staying in hotels so he had apartments in most major European cities. Mama can not bear to part with them.
To think... There you are in dreadful Piccadilly, which is nothing more than horrid shops and loud noises when you could be overlooking Hyde Park!
I am so sorry...
I shant sleep a wink for thinking of you in some garret in Piccadilly!

I might actually become incontinent laughing...
Do you usually rise so early? It is 5.33am in London as I type this..
It was near 2.30 when you posted your greeting!

Musta really got your knickers in a knot posting about my Lizzie letters. You don't take to be called a "corpse" well, but actually I put that question up because it was emailed to me and that was the response I had. (Emailer, you know who you are)....I have friends here who lurk, non members, and they email me.
Anyway, okay. Let's play the picture game. Here's one.

The gig was up for me when the photo she posted of the book she bought recently matched exactly the one bought by "biddercritter2" and once one checked the feedback for "biddercritter2" there was a posting as follows:
From One Payson to Another, Thank You Very Much!!!!
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... ompage=222
Of course we all know who lives there!
Of course a slight spelling change to Paysan and we have the French word for peasant!
Take Becky and make it "Berk"y and we have the French slang for YUK!
Have fun at Trafalgar Square Berks...
If anyone would like to see Faye "Live in London" at Trafalgar Square they can always look at the live web cam!

You'd think that one who claims "Bordenia" knowledge at the level Berky does would know about pigeons....and that asking the date of Lizzie's death is NOT a "genius" level question. But then as Audrey said...the dry heat of Payson gets to some people. It makes them think they live in NYC and feed "pidgeons" in England.

I think enough is enough. I think the charade has gone on as long as I care that it does. To those who have been following the antics of beckygoddess and do not understand what it all has meant, let me explain.
Beckygoddess is not a woman who lives in NY named Rebecca. She is Faye Musselman of Payson, AZ. She has been banned from this forum before for pretending to be people she is not. She has pretended to be both male and female, married, with grandchildren, old and young. She has become friendly with members, even flirting with a female on this board in the guise of being a male.
This behavior is unconsionable and way beyond the rules of this forum.
I apologize to the members here who have been duped by the following identities----it was often only much later that I was able to prove the hoax and at that time banned her identities. You might remember these names: mesadave, Miller, hhtiles, donj. Now, beckygoddess.

When she was posting as "Miller" (A man from California) she shared a photo of a man and a woman in the B&B claiming it to be "her" and "his" wife...
How dreadful! Who were these innocent people whose photo she used? We may never know.
It shows that her level of deceit knows no bounds and totally robbed her of any credibility she may have had.
If any new member of the forum contacts you via PM's or Email with requests that you send them issues of The Hatchet or copy/paste messages from the Privy or any other section of the forum I urge you to refuse to do so and contact Stefani at once.

I wouldn't overstock on Glade just yet, she will be
back, she loves this case as we do. She is the cause of me and Kimberly getting in trouble and Kimberly leaving the forum, she was emailing both
of us back then. I still think she is harmless though,
I've bought a lot of stuff from her in the past on Ebay under many names and never had a problem, she always sent extra goodies. She was one of the
speakers at the 1992 convention and her essay is in the "Proceedings" book. Troublemaker, YES, but
she really does have knowledge about the case.
Let's just see what new name she comes up with next.

I have known her from several different Borden boards and for some years now. Although she doesn't often take aim at me (as she does at some others), I still think any valid contributions she makes are canceled out by her outrageous behavior. On one board we had a member who was a very young teenager. She was mature beyond her years and made excellent contributions to the discussions. She left the board suddenly one day, and I'll always believe it was because "Becky" (whom I refer to as F***) behaved as she does. Putting that seminude picture on is vintage F***. She did something similar on another board. She isn't to be trusted, believe me. She seems to get her jollies by trying to "outsmart" others. Of course, jousting with her is like getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Nancie, I am NEVER one to want anyone to think about someone as I do, that is totally up to each individual. Since your experiences have been fairly positive, somewhat odd, but nothing too much beyond your own level of comfort, I can understand your position.
However, I did want to tell you there is much more going on here than just a few fake IDs and trying to fool people. Remember, she admitted taking The Hatchet and not paying for it, she has faked IDs on eBay, which is very much against the law, she has slandered people behind their backs with completely false information, and has copyright infringed both me and Harry Widdows (which is a federal offense).
It is a lot of nefarious dealings, not a few, and it has been going on for years and years and years.
I hope you never have to change your mind about her! Because if you did, I would imagine it would be because of a very bad experience---and I don't wish that on anyone.
BTW, Kimberly didn't leave because of this. There were other reasons which she only hinted out to me before she went away.

She sounds like quite a character. She posted the article in the news with her real name etc, so she was not hiding too much there, even though she logged in under a different state, but some people do have multiple addresses. If she did log in under different names, ages, sex etc with same IP address, as website owner would know, then that is another story. Makes me wonder what Lizzie would have done if she could be on a computer surfing the web.

I've been following this thread and find it quite sad that a woman of her age acts the way she does. Makes me wonder what has happened to her in life to cause her to be this way? I don't know the full story of this nefarious character as I've never dealt with her directly myself. But, from what I've seen and read today, I'll be sure to steer clear. Yeesh.

Yes it was all very childish on her part, but you wouldn't have believed me about this in a million years unless you had seen it for yourself, I warrant. That is the main reason why I didn't ban her when I first figured it out --- I let her share herself with all of us in a public manner so you could also get a wee dose of the prussic acid kid.

i'm fortunate to have never dealt with her myself. personally, i hate phoniness in people more than anything. there is no sensible reason to cultivate fraud, since truth is more productive. that first "note" from the FRHS was actually a sad plea for credibility.

It seems that if she is so knowledgeable about the case, it would have been much better to be straightforward and just enjoy discussing it. There was really no need for such dramatics. However, unfortunately I've worked with people like that; and I've found it's mostly a bid for attention. They are not happy if they are not the center of attention at all times; therefore, they have to resort to outrageous behavior to keep themselves in the spotlight.
Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2005 1:47 pm
by Stefani
Yes, Sally, I agree. And also with Eugene in his comments as well. Honesty is very important and oh such easier to do---you have nothing to remember but the truth!
And that also goes for being nice. Why not choose nice? Isn't nice the way one wants to be treated? And if so, wouldn't you think a person would treat others the same way?
I especially liked the comment earier about imagining Lizzie with a computer. Now that would make a good cartoon, huh Tina-Kate?
