Saw this on Netscape news the other day. According to VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) the name "Abby" is #16 in popularity of female dog names today.
It is #27 in popularity for cats.

Starting back in the early 1970s a close friend and neighbor of ours had three different dogs at different times. She named the first and third dogs Abby. She named the second dog Andrew. Honest.

My cousin has a dog named Abby, and I told her after seeing the dog it was a fitting name.

Hi, Augusta.
I have cat named Abby. (We have three in all-Peanut and Acey are my other two-you may have seen posts for Acey's surgery).
When Dave and I moved in together before getting married, we decided that we were both going to get a kitten. Dave got his first, and I asked if we could name her Abby-it just seem to fit. Then I got my kitten, and we named him Andy. Unfortunately, Andy wasn't a healthy kitten and died within a few weeks. Abby was devasted, she loved her little brother.
Abby is a white and black domestic short-hair and is now 9 years old. She is a beautiful cat and knows that she is the QUEEN in this house. She hates her new brother Acey though. She hates him with a passion. She tries to avoid him as much as possible, although he adores her. He tries so hard with her, but she is completely unimpressed.
I saw the Netscape article too. I was surprised, I thought the name was much more popular for cats than dogs!

I'm happy with my calico cat, Lizzie, and her black and white sister, Emma!
