My ear!

Thayne and the children came home a few days ahead of me so that I could remain in France to finish up some of my mama's business. I came home via one of Air France's Airbus A330's. A very comfortable plane.

For the first time in my life, I am suffering from airplane ear. So much that I have a perforated eardrum!

It really hurts.....

The only good news is that I sat next to a well known (rather ugly) French film star.... Can you guess who?

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your ear, Audrey, sounds incredibly painful. Hmmm, was the actor Gerard Depardieu?

Thank God Susan guessed first, so I didn't have to try (and fail) to spell his name correctly! ;-)

Of course Susan got it right on her first try!

What do you do about a perforated eardrum? Sounds awful!

You wait.... It heals on it's own in a few weeks.

It hurts like the very devil.

I guess don't go jumping out of any airplanes or go deep-sea-diving.
Or as Ricky Ricardo calls it: Dipsee Diving.
Sorry this happened Audrey!

So, did you and Gerard have any conversation at all? I bet he was just thrilled and charmed to be sitting next to you on that flight!

Ugh, I was just reading up on perforated eardrums. It doesn't sound like there is alot you can do for the pain, it just listed a hot water bottle or heating pad set on a low setting and acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

We did chat until I fell asleep....

He seemed to be a very nice man and I was the one who was pleased.

I have used a water bottle and tylenol! The doctor told me to expect the entire process to last 2-3 weeks....

I have had a perforated eardrum...no fun. It is like having a broken toe...you just have to wait.

I have had natural childbirth and a kidney stones. Avoid both if you can! It was always a toss up to me which pain was worse... Now I have another one to add to the list.

I have been to the doctor 3 times and the ER once for pain management. I do not think I am a baby-- but I can not shake this low grade fever and have almost totally lost the hearing in that ear. My equilibrium is affected, so now when I stagger around in public people really think I have been hitting the wine bottle early in the day!

Kidney stones! I had a tiny one and thought I was going to die. I had a soreness on the left side of my back for six years until the pain hit one night big time!

I had a split molar that hurt so bad I was out of my head for three full days. I didn't have the money to get it fixed so I had to suffer. I was seriously contemplating grabbing my .357 but I didn't have the energy to look for the bullets. Besides I didn't want my family to see my brains all over the wall. But, I didn't want to check out anyway.

I had a lot of ear trouble back in the '50's. I remember the Dr. digging down and pulling up a bunch of wax and blood and guts and stuff. I out grew the ear trouble in the early '60's. I remember watching President Kennedy on TV one night with a hot water bottle against my ear. I felt misrable but that was the last time I had trouble. My nephews went through the same thing.

I developed jaw trouble years ago and believe me that can be fun. A Dr. injected some stuff in my condile to create scar tissue that would keep my jaw from dis-locating. The last thing he said to me as I was leaving was: "You may experience some pain." That was the understatement of the year! I was climbing the walls. I got a nice letter from Dorothy Hamill the next day and that made the pain bearable. Bless her little heart.

I feel for you Audrey. Been there done that. Ear trouble can make life misrable.

My ear... Mon Dieu! My ear!

I had outpatient surgery today-- They placed a small "patch" over the perforation. It has not healed at all--but grown!

I have pain constantly-- and almost total hearing loss in the injured ear. It has been challenging to say the least! I have had a fever for weeks and an infection-- one that they cannot seem to pinpoint. I have been on antibiotic after antibiotic...

Hopefully this "patch" will do the trick!

I'm pulling for you Audrey  . I know how painful these ear problems can be. It seems like it takes forever but with time it will pass.

Hang in there.

I hope the patch works for you and that you start healing soon, Audrey. It sounds like you've been through enough hell already.

I'm sorry you're still in pain, Audrey. This is definitely well past that initial three week estimate the doctor gave you, isn't it? It must be miserable for you! I hope things turn around soon.
