I enjoyed the book. It was written in an easy to read format, DID have new photos I had not seen and had some nice extras....

It was given to me as a gift and I am thrilled to have it in my Lizzie Library...

Any other opinions/input?

I'm waiting for my copy to arrive (hopefully) this Thursday. At first I was a bit unsure whether to order the book from Amazon. The copy I saw on-line looked kind of cheaply put together nice to hear the book is pretty good.

I can't bring myself to buy anything with a title like that. I'll have to take your word for its validity.

I read it, it was an enjoyable read. I liked the way he broke down certain aspects of the case. I did notice a couple of mistakes in it, nothing major, but what Lizzie book is without them besides Rebello?

Rebello is not without them, Susan. . .

Thanks, Chris, well, I guess I'll have to amend that. I don't have Rebello as of yet, so, can't vouch for it other than what I have heard. Oh well, I guess the mistakes go with the territory.

I thought I was going to be able to get this book from amazon. First, they told me the book was going to come a bit later but now I have found out they're unable to send the book at all. Oh,well. Anyone know if the book had anything new in it? I read in one post he is said to have some story about some woman who knew a lot about Lizzie. Is that true? I've been debating on either ordering the Radin book or the Source book by Kent. Which one would be better to get first?

Where have people been getting Dave's book? I tried to order it locally but it's been a month without any answer.

I was thinking about ordering it through Amazon myself when you posted your experience, DWilly.

The same thing happened here. I ordered the book through Amazon, they said order was confirmed. Then it was delayed and then it was cancelled. They said it was unavailable. Mabe they never printed many copies and it's just sold out.

Email the publisher at http://www.jmbpub.com/ and let us know what they say.

I ordered my copy through Barnes and Noble, it took less than 10 days to get it in. I truly enjoyed the book, errors and all. Well worth the money!

I went to their web site and it says the book is not available right now. I've tried to e-mail the publisher but I'm having a few problems with their web site. One thing I have been able to do is I went through my good old library and ordered a bunch of Lizzie books. I ordered the Radin book, the Masterton book and the David Kent Source book. I already read Kent's book Forty Wacks. The only book I'm having trouble getting is the Buffington book.

What's a Buffington book?

I'm sorry, I should have posted Buffinton. I was looking at the Library Of Congress Web site. I went though their catalog and under the search keywords I came across a book by G.R.H. Buffinton. The book is The Fall Rivers Tragedy: A History Of The Borden Murders It's in their old catalog.

The Fall River Tragedy is by Porter. I believe Buffinton was the original publisher.

The book was reproduced in 1985 by Borden scholar Robt. Flynn, through King Philip Publishing.

The original book is rare but not as rare as originally supposed, This is the book that Lizzie supposedly bought up all the copies. There is no proof of that claim. Copies of the original command a very high price.

Thank you for clearing that up. When I typed in Keyword: Lizzie Borden, it came up with that book title but it didn't say Porter only Buffinton. So, I thought it was another book.

Here is a link to the Porter book, as a download off our website, for free.

There IS a Buffinton book at the Keeley Library online for download:
History of Fall River / prepared under the direction of a committee of prominent citizens appointed by His Honor Mayor John T. Coughlin by Henry M. Fenner, A. B., assisted by Benjamin Buffinton. -- New York : F. T. Smiley Publishing Co., 1906.

I just checked Amazon, and sure enough, there's a copy of Dave Rehak's book listed at $129.49. I've heard from a couple of sources that there are some copyright issues with the book. Apparently some material was used without the authors' permission. If that's the case, it could reappear with that material excised, or (if the material is a large part of the book) it might not reappear at all. Maybe somebody bought up a few copies at the original issue price (which I think was quite low) and is now trying to make a profit on them.

When I checked Amazon for the price, they kindly recommended Rick Geary's graphic novel on the case, which I've owned for years. If you want to buy a GOOD book on the case at a very reasonable price, I recommend that one. It's especially good for people who have little knowledge of the case. It'll get you up to speed in minutes. I believe Susan interviewed Rick Geary a while back.

Also, I note that eBay has a copy of Bob Flynn's Porter reprint dirt cheap, although the auction doesn't close for several more days, and it'll probably go higher. That's another "must" for any good Borden library.

I hope that taking it off the market doesn't turn the Rehak book into a twenty-first century version of Edwin Porter's book!

Over on e-bay this book is being offered now. I'm going to *try* to give the link and I hope it works. Book is a bit pricey for me right now. I just don't know for sure if this book really has anything new or what.

I received am email from 'someone' telling me the book is being re-printed.... The mail was not clear as to why. It urged me to buy it again-- and that the 2nd printing would be different from the first. I have no intention of buying another, 'different' copy.

Knowing now, that the Rehak book is connected to that 'someone', I will not spend my money on the second printing copy either.

I have received the Revised November 2005 edition of Dave Rehak's book.

As far as I can make out Edisto's name was removed from the acknowledgements and, if the name Sharon Sexton was used in the diary section, she is now just referred to as an amateur actress who "played' Lizzine in a one-woman show and who changed her name to Lizzie when she moved to Vermont.

Not much new as far as I'm concerned...probably not worth the wait to get it.

For those of you that have a copy of Rehak's book that is from the first printing, hang on to it. There were only 45 copies released from the first printing. I was trying to locate one and found this information.

IF that book ever shows up in the County Library system I will read it.
Surely you are old enough to consider the sources?
How many of you will swallow the propaganda from 'TIME' or 'Reader's Digest' or other such publication?
