57 blows with a pick axe.

I was watching a TV show last night, one of the "American Justice" shows on I believe A&E. It concerned the Karla Faye Tucker case. If you think the Borden murders were atrocious the Tucker case certainly rivals if not beats it hands down.

The victims, one male, one female were murdered with a pick axe. The male was struck 31 times, the female 26. The final blow to the female left the pick axe imbedded in her chest through her heart.

Both Tucker and her boyfriend were convicted and sentenced to death. He died in jail of "natural causes" and she was executed.

What struck me as odd was the choice of murder weapon. Like the Borden case it was an unusual choice. A pick axe would certainly indicate a level of pre-meditation as one does not normally carry a pick axe around with them.

It showed the pick axe being placed on the evidence table in the court room. I could almost hear the faint echo of the axes in the Borden case clanking together in 1893 as they were placed in evidence.

What exactly is a pick-ax, oppsed to a hatchet?

Another brutal, drug-realted murder was the "Wonderland" murders in California. No axes were used but it was horrible.

Here's a photo of one that is similar to the one in the murders. They're mainly used to dig ditches and holes in the ground.

I thought that was called pick mattock? If I do a search for a picture of a pick mattock that is what it looks like. I thought a pick axe was pointed on both ends like this?

You are probably correct Allen but it looked more like the photo I posted. They called it a pick axe.

One end was indeed pointed the other level. I was looking on Google for one that matched it but didn't try too hard. Just did another search under "pick axe" and found this. This looks almost exactly like it:

One mean weapon no matter what you call it.

I read about that case- in an anthology. The Pope tried to stop her execution. She claimed it was orgasmic to kill the female. They were all high.
