Periodically I see on eBay an album for auction from a British singer, Alma Cogan. There is one on auction now at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 59595&rd=1

One of the songs on the album is titled Lizzie Borden.

Is this the same song as recorded by the Chad Mitchell Trio? (aka You Can't Chop Your Poppa Up in Massachusetts.

Yes Harry it is!

I found a 30 second sample clip here:

She sounds rather like a cabaret singer. It is a nice sound!

After listening to several of those clips I wouldn't mind having that CD.

Are you bidding?

Thanks Auds, that's the song alright. No, I was not going to bid. Good luck if you do.

She has a nice voice and it struck me as curious that she would sing a song like that but I did a search on her and found that she did do novelty songs. She appears to have had a short career and I read somewhere a tragic end. She only made 4 albums. I saw on one site the Lizzie Borden song was also on a 45 record and made in 1956. I haven't been able to find a biography on her yet though.

I also found this German site that has 30 second bites of that album containing the Lizzie Borden song. You need Real Player to listen.

Yes Tracy, thank you. That's the site but I didn't read that last paragraph where it said she died of cancer.

The 45rpm record has Lizzie Borden on one side and Willie Can on the other. Willie S. Borden? Nah.
