It's going to be the battle of the goregouse backhands down under in the Australian Open Women's Final. I'm really hoping that Amelie Mauresmo from France pulls off the upset the Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne. Amelie has never won a Slam title.

On the men's side I really really hope Roger Federer beats the totally evil Nicolas Kiefer in his Semi-final match. Kiefer slunk to a new low for sportsmanship against the French player Sebastien Grosjean. I don't even care that much for the little guy but after Kiefer's stunt of throwing his racquet while Grosjean was trying to volley was awful. Besides, I want King Roger to win the Grand Slam this year.

Hardenne-Mauresmo should be a good match. Hardenne seems to be back in stride, knocking off Davenport and Sharapova. It's a toss-up though.

Personally I was rooting for Hingis. But it was too much to expect from her on her first comeback major. She played well though.

Well, congratulations to Amelie and Roger the new Australian Open Champs! Go Roger on winning the Grand Slam this year!!

The women's final was a shocker what with the way Justine retired in the second set. On Saturday when I went to my tennis clinic I got into a rather spirited debate on Justine's lack of sportsmanship. I still think she could have toughed it out another four games to let Amelie have a good win. Can you imagine one of the Steelers or Seahawkes stopping play in the Super Bowl because their tummy was upset? Justine's retiring was almost as bad as when Helen Wills retired against Helen Jacobs in the 1933, U.S. Nationals Final. In that one Wills, who hated Jacobs by the way, retired because she *claimed* her back hurt. The fact she was losing may have been a reason too. Anyway, after she retired she actually had the nerve to contact officials to let them know she wanted to play her doubles final. They told her no because they feared the fans would riot.
