Titanic's Final Moments: Missing Pieces

Thanks for the heads-up, Kat. One question: why did they spend all that time developing the theory that the iceberg removed part of the bottom of the ship, and then never mention it again, once the pieces of the bottom were found?

I watched it . It was a must see for me. I think finding the two pieces of Titanic's double bottom, almost 70 feet of it, was a very significant discovery. Its location alone is very significant.

There was controversy as to whether or not the ship actually broke apart at all until Robert Ballard discovered the wreck. Now with these findings we may have to reassess what we thought we knew yet again. I found the show totally fascinating; I was glued to my television the whole time.

I think it was due to the condition of the two pieces once they were found. If the iceberg would've removed the pieces as they at first believed, they would've looked more like they had been peeled back. Like they stated in the show, it would've looked like the skin being peeled off an apple. It didn't look like that though. It wasn't mangled, and the breaks were more or less clean.

I couldn't understand why they had not hyped the upcoming show more- or maybe they did and I didn't know?

That last night was the single most interesting night on the History Channel, was not even promoted, as far as I could tell!

Anyway, the new Titanic show gave me goosbumps.

After that was a new show on The Bermuda Triangle and another new show on Loch Ness!
I thought I had seen them all- but they really were new.
It must be *sweeps week.*

Loch Ness was really really good, too.

It seems these underwater investigations are part of a new trend on the History Channel.

I hope to watch them all! I agree last night on the history channel was some really great television.

I heard they did sonograms on the hull of the bow, which revealed the damage to be only 15 square feet, disproving the popular theory that the iceberg slashed a huge gash below the water line. What I heard actually happened was the iceberg simply buckled rivets, punching tiny holes into the hull much like morse code. Titanic is also one of my fascinations, and no, not because of the cheesy James Cameron movie. I suggest anyone who is interested in a good movie rent "A Night to Remember." That one is "da bomb."

A Night to Remember is a good movie, and an even better book. I'm also fascinated by Titanic, and have been since way before Cameron's movie. There is just something about it that has drawn me in and keeps me wanting to know more. The stories of the passengers that were on board can really reach out and touch you.

I generally think old black and white movies are the best. I spent most of last night watching a few on television. One of the movies that I enjoyed most was The Women starring Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer. That's always been a good one to me. Some of that wit still holds just as true today as it did then. A few of my all time favorites are The Thin Man, Arsenic and Old Lace, and It Happened One Night.

When Titanic was at the movies, my sister and her teenage daughter went to see it 28 times. Thus, the power of "DiCaprio" and a young girls fancy......

Dicaprio has never really impressed me until he did the movie The Aviator. I mean he's a good enough actor, but there has always been something that's put me off about him. I do, however, like Billy Zane. Even though he was the bad guy in Titanic I found myself rooting for him just the tiniest bit. I would say that I was pleasantly surprised by Dicaprio in The Aviator. I think Howard Hughes is fascinating, and Leonardo really brought him to life.

Never seen Titanic. Not much of a movie goer. Friends always laugh at me when I tell them that my favorite movies are, THE PIANO and THE ENGLISH PATIENT....................but what do you expect from someone who also likes, JOHN TESH and YANNI.

Speaking of "A Night To Remember", the British movie is on tonight at 8pm, Eastern on TCM (Turner Classic Movies). Stars Kenneth More. One of my favorite movies.
