Nice pictures. I took a similar view when I was in FR 2 years ago. I think I have one looking toward Maplecroft from the other end of French St. as well. Too Bad Mr. Dube was not in a congenial mood that weekend.

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing them with us, Michael. I agree about the vinyl siding, yuck! It fades, it cracks and gets filthy over time, at least with real wood it can be painted!

Thanks Mike for the photos! Photo 000-0131 looks like it was shot from the same spot as this one in c1890's:

The house on the end of the block reminds me of 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

No doubt it was a glorious marvel for the Catholics in Fall River.

Those are such great photographs Michael! Thank you so much for sharing those. The pictures of the church as it was burning were horribly wonderful, if that makes any kind of sense. They were definitely some really strong images. I can relate to you thinking that God shouldn't allow a thing like that.

You must have felt so bad- like you wanted to run there and help- but useless to try...

The building looks in decent shape at least from the outside. Any reason for tearing it down?

I believe James M. Morton was partners with Andrew J. Jennings in the law firm of Morton and Jennings. He later became a judge.

The N.B. Borden school is the one Lizzie attended on Morgan St. There's a photo of it in Rebello, page 9. Somewhere I have a photo of one of the class rooms.

THANKS to mbhenty for posting these current photos of Fall River. Buildings have a way of disappearing in Fall River, either by fires or supposed urban renewal.

It's almost a miracle that 92 Second still stands. There has been a lot of "renewal" in that area and apparently more to come with the proposed new court house across the street.

Fires over the years (and Fall River has had a lot of them) have come dangerously close. I remember reading of one where the sparks from a fire downtown were landing on the roof of St. Mary's church just across the street.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Churchill house also burned down. Just look at any photo and see how close they were to each other.

Does anyone know how that happened? I think it was in the 1960's?

I had a great time visiting the courthouse with my neice. We were treated quite nicely by the court officer who let us into THE courtroom since there was not a trial in sessiion at the time. It is a very beautiful old building.

The destruction of "old" buildings goes on all over the country. If wood, termites or carpenter ants may create the need. If masonry, the lack of modern insulation or air conditioning may make it cheaper to tear down and rebuild than to modify it. The present owner has the right, unless there is some sort of higher power.
I read about two city halls that were torn down in order to build much bigger buildings.
Years ago I visited relatives in upstate NY. There were tearing down a historic hotel, but brick by brick as old brick has quite a high value today. It was just a local 30 ft high building. The local stores were all converted to housing.

Great picture Michael. What makes it even more interesting to me is that it is only the third picture I've ever seen of the Swansea farm house. I think it is also by far the best. Thanks so much for posting it. I saved it to my ever growing file of pictures on this case.
