I want your old Greeting Cards

Its that time of year again!!

Every year starting the first of August I start my Bookmark project.
It all started a couple of years ago, when I was at my local Library checking out some books.
As I got to the counter I noticed there was a small box of cut up sheets of paper, that the Library used for Free Bookmarks. It was almost embarrasing that the Library system used these old used & typed up sheets of cut up paper.
So I came up with this Idea.
I take old used & abused Greeting cards & make Bookmarks & donate them to my local Library. It started out real simple, just giving them to my Local branch near my Home. Then the Library would call me & ask if I had some more to donate. seems they go like Hotcakes.
I cut the cards into strips & punch a hole in the top & thread nice ribbons through them. I use any kind of greeting card any occasion, used or not
I just use the front cover with the pictures on them.
The last three years I have supplied all 8 branches of my County Library with the bookmarks, last year alone I made over 600
I do it as a volunteer thing.
I accept no money, I just love doing it.

So, heres the deal, send me all of your old greeting cards, I shread the parts that are written on,& only use the sides with graphics. the shredded parts I actually use for bedding in My Opossum cages. ( I do wildlife rehabilitation for the state of N.C. )
I will send you back the shipping amount If you wish in a Money Order
E-mail me & I will give you my adress ( in the subject line write -greeting cards for Library bookmarks ) any help will be greatly appreciated.
You should see people light up when they can choose a free bookmark at the Library.
Thanks for your Help
Matt

I forgot to edit
I made 1600 bookmarks last year not 600

I will be smiling when I go to the mailbox

If your concerned about security, do not put a return adress ( But that will be the only way I can send you the Shipping)
Unless you use a P.O.Box
Thanks

I feel badly that I do not save greeting cards-- But I will begin to and send to you at regular intervals.

I do not expect or wish for reimbursement for my postage costs.

Matt - What a great thing to do!

(I don't suppose you could put a plug in for 'The Hatchet' on the backs... )

The St. Jude's Ranch for Children was collecting used greeting cards. The kids there would make ornaments out of them and the money made in selling them would go into each child's savings account. I ran a program at church for several years, until a few years ago. I collected a ton of cards, as usual, had the fronts all cut off for them and was about to ship them when I read that they were swamped with cards and asked people not to send anymore. Wish I had known about your project then. I ended up throwing them away.

QT: What a nice thought!

Be Creative
Make Bookmarks
Do something for the community
It will bring you great satisfaction
People just love the Bookmarks
Just make a few & take them to the library
Give the Librarian your phone #
You will be surprised just how fast they will call & let you know how much everyone loves them.
Good project for Sunday School Also
Good Luck
