Giant Squid: Caught on Camera

The first photographs of a giant squid.

Original Airdate: August 5, 2006.

This is a new show. They've been following the whales who eat the giant squid, but have yet to find giant squid. This will be the first film of one ever, if the description of the program is true.

Cryptozoology is one of my hobbies.

They "caught" a 20 foot tentacle and snaps of the beast, but they never estimated its size! I kept asking the tv- what is the scale? They didn't say. I am frustrated they gave no estimate! But at least they found one alive. But the snaps were 30 seconds apart- not exactly a moving picture.

A giant squid was recently hauled aboard a ship. I don't remember how big they say it was but it was sizeable.

You like Cryptozoology, Kat? What do you feel about "Bigfoot?" I personally feel there is a chance it still exists but I feel the 1967 Patterson film was faked. But...?

I wonder about Nessie.

I don't know why there couldn't be things out there (in the world) that we don't know about. It would be terribly sad if we've already seen everything there is to see. I think there's still places remote enough to hide in, and if their smart and stay away from us, they could be........There's got to be things down in the ocean that have never been seen before, don't you think? (sorry if I'm butting in)

I think you are right, Pam. I feel there is a whole lot of animals we haven't discovered yet. Who knows, someday someone may run over a bigfoot and there goes that mystery. Why go to Mars? Theres still a lot down here.

I don't think the truly huge giant squid has been found yet.
If I was rich I'd be one of those guys who look for *alien animals.*
Of course, new species are being *discovered* and named quite often now that more areas of the earth are being explored.
I'm interested in Loch Ness and other lake monsters.
More recently the one in the Congo, "Mokele-mbembe."

While looking for the correct spelling I found I am behind in my lake monsters!
They've added Ninki Nanka and Nahuelito.

As for the Patterson film, I'm not sure. The show that was on TV with the screams or calls of a Big Foot was really cool.
I'm not sure that bigfoot is even an animal- it could be an elemental spirit- or something from another dimension.

As for the ocean- during the hurricanes of 2004 I hoped something would wash up on shore from all that turmoil. But nothing did. Way back when there was something washed up in St. Augustine, Florida, 1896.

I hear there is supposed to be dinosours in a small area of Africa I believe. There was a show in that and the natives claim they have seen them.

There has been a lot of weired creatures washing up on California's beaches over the past century. Most of them turned out to be whale skin but many were never identified. My idea of a giant squid would be something like the one in the "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" movie. Now that would turn me on!

I saw that photo of Nessie only once back in the seventies. The neck looks rather short and the creature doesn't look right for some reason or other, maybe sitting too high up out of the water. It's a cool picture though.

I saw that program about bigfoot's "scream." They have hair samples they can't identify so maybe he does still exist. I would love to go visit the sight of the Patterson film. They had a documetery on it and through measurements determined that the "creature" was 6'5" tall. Why couldn't it have been 9' tall? Then we would have had proof that it was a real creature and not a man in a suit. Of course they claim it was a female so that may have accounted for it's short height. But, if it was a fake the creators may have made a female suit to avoid the normal 8'-9' foot height. No man alive in 1967 was anywhere near 9 feet tall. The whereabouts of anyone over 8 feet tall could have been tracked down. Too bad the creature was so short.

That is a cool picture Kat, That lake is supposed to be pretty deep in some area's, Who's to say what might be surviving down there. Have you seen the movie "Last of The Dogman"? I thought that was great, about a lost tribe of Indian's still living as they had 150 years ago, untouched by modern times. I saw that show about the scream years ago, and the hair they found, I can't remember much about it though, seems like a farmer and his son had seen it from a distance or found tracks or something, oh well, it's late and I just can't remember much. I like this kind of thing also, it's fascinating. I also like some of the alien theories too.

The Loch is about 900 feet deep in some areas. No telling what could be down there. I saw "Last of The Dogmen." It was a good story. I remember Barbara Hershey from the "Monroes" TV show in 1966.

Have you ever seen "The Legend of Bogey Creek?" That was a good flick, especially the music. The sequel was crappy I thought although I like Dawn Wells. She almost got killed making that film.

Who knows whats out there, watching us from the woods.

I've been to Inverness. Did you know that you can go for a submarine ride in the loch? (You could when I was there in '94, at least. I didn't bite, though.)
