Hilliard Papers

It seems I heard a while ago that the FRHS was planning to publish Rufus Hilliard's papers much in the fashion that they released the Knowlton Papers. Has anyone any recent skinny on the status of that effort?

A special "Howdy" to Bob Gutowski, with whom I used to converse on another (now defunct) forum.

Hello Roy: Yes, I have stopped by the Fall River Historical Society and asked the powers at be about the Hilliard papers. Though they hint with a considerate smile that they are "Looking into publishing," it is all they will say.

Of course you can not blame them for keeping their publishing cards close to their vest, at least untill the manuscript is finished.

But as soon as it is out this is the site to find out about it.

Of course it may not be for a while. They just finished republishing two older publications, one on the history of Fall River and another on the Mill Industry here in the city.

Both have been sold out, and they are pumping out fresh copies as we speak. Of course no great literary endeavor there. It's two books that were published long ago, and it was just a matter of printing and formating. The text was just copied and reissued. They are being done through the Print-on-demand process, so no fear of an issue running out.

Hello Roy! Welcome to the forum.

I ask Michael Martins about the Hilliard Papers everytime I see him. They have no date for publication but they say they are still working on them.

Give him a call yourself at 508-679-1071. The more who ask the more likely they might be to get on with it! Let us know what they tell you.

"Martins"? I think I've heard the name before.
Is he the husband of "Audrey"?

Ray, my gosh, give it a rest!

Michael Martins is the curator of the Fall River Historical Society.

Hi, Roy!

The answer, straight from Dennis's mouth, is that the social history of Fall River he and Michael are working on, with the Borden murders as the centerpiece, will be published before the Hilliard papers.

Yup, I just plumb asked him on the 4th!

Is no one interested in the solution to the Mystery of the Missing Poster?

Using a similar name as "Martin" could mean somebody wanted to point guilt or suspicion to this person. It could be an enemy of Martins, and that would be a clue. Does Martins belong to this board?

To answer your question, no, no one is the least bit interested in the the solution to the mystery of the missing poster. If you are, please take it off the forum in a PM with those who are.

Michael Martins is not related to Audrey Martin NO S. He is not a member here. Please stop bringing this PRIVY topic up in other threads. Just when I think it is over, you want to talk about it again. Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top?
