From the book "Lizzie Borden the Legend the Truth and the Final Chapter",
page 14, "Borden's were among the earliest settlers of Fall River. A member of th e Borden clan was present with the Borden clan that joinded Anne Hutchinson was ousted from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for heresay un the 1600's. By the early 1700's third generation Bordens owned everything on both sides of the Taunton River in the Fall River."

My question is, everything I have read, was that Andy Borden was poor and was brought up the hard way. He had to work for everything. He made his money. Was that a story, or that passage I just wrote from the book a lie? I know Andrew was tight with his money, which would make the passage of him growing up poor more easier to believe.

So which is it? Brought poor, or brought up with money?

Yes, some Bordens were wealthy. Not all were; there were bank-president Bordens and janitor Bordens.

Andrew's father, Abraham, was not as well off as some members of the family, but he wasn't living in the streets, either. Andrew did not grow up wealthy, and he did make his fortune by himself.
