LOS ANGELES - Robert Altman, the caustic and irreverent satirist behind "M-A-S-H," "Nashville" and "The Player" who made a career out of bucking Hollywood management and story conventions, died at a Los Angeles Hospital, his Sandcastle 5 Productions Company said Tuesday. He was 81.

They say they "go" in 3's.
That is 3, including the Michigan Football coach Bo Schembechler and Ed Bradley.
Usually there is a *beautiful blonde* as well. We'll see.

Altman was reportedly brought in to finish "MASH". Lucky?
I think all his other films were so-so. I know a couple who walked out of "Nashville".

i did not know this until i saw it here. well. my favorite filmmaker is still alive somewhere in sweden, and i'm looking for that obituary.
but altman. i admire talented filmmakers. just last year, i bought "mccabe and mrs miller" on dvd where he does a commentary.
another brilliant artist bites the dust. we'd better get busy. and make no mistake -- the "auteur" filmmaker is an artist as much as van gogh or cezanne. unfortunate on the one hand, but a cause for celebration on the other. thank you, robert altman.
