DAVID ANTHONY — An Annotated Bibliography of the Borden Murders, Lizzie Andrew Borden Web-site: The Ellsworth American, Ellsworth, ME, Jan. 2, 1985: "A Solution to the 1892 Crime? : Ruby Cameron Says David Anthony Murdered Lizzie Borden's Parents." Also, Bernard Sullivan, Providence Journal Bulletin, Jan. 13, 1985, C1-C2: "Maine Woman Says Lizzie Borden Told Her The Real Killer." Also, Leonard Rebello. Lizzie Borden; Past and Present, 1999, pg. 138- 9:
84 year-old Ruby Francis Cameron of Cherryfield, Maine, made national headlines when she claimed that David Anthony, who wanted to marry Lizzie, killed the Bordens. There has been no confirmation to prove David Anthony, Jr., committed the 1892 murders. Miss Cameron died Nov. 18, 1985.
Last year, before I went to the Inn I was doing research on Lizzie and I ran across the above item. I did some research on Ancestry. com and the Mormon site and else where just to see if these claims could be plausible, and I'm sure you all know they aren't. BUT, I found an interesting blurb from a newspaper that stated something along the lines of "Miss Lizzie Borden of Fall River visited the boat or yacht of David Anthony .........." Now I can't find where I found it! Has anyone seen that? I had to have found it on line, or read it at the Inn. It was before the murders.

Rebello, pg. 62+
"Yacht Mabel F. Swift of Fall River is now at Marion [Massachusetts]. Her owner, Charles W.
Anthony, is cruising with a party of friends, including Hon. Simeon Borden, Hon. James F. Jackson and Messrs.. Holder W. Durfee, William Winslow and R. W. Bassett."
"The following ladies from Fall River are stopping at Blake's Point: Mrs. James [Frederick] Jackson, Misses Edith Jackson, Jennie Stowell, Anna [Covell] Holmes, Mary [Louisa] Holmes, Mabel H. Remington, Louise O. Remington, Alice [Lydia] Buck, Isabelle [Isabel] J. Fraser, Louise [Holmes] Handy, Elizabeth [Murray] Johnston, Annie [Childs] Bush and Lizzie [Andrew] Borden." New Bedford Evening Standard, July 26, 1892: 4.
"Sloop yacht Mabel F. Swift was at Marion, Monday, where the following ladies from Fall River are stopping at Blake's Point: Mrs. James F. Jackson, Misses Edith Jackson, Jennie Stowell, Anna C. Holmes, Mary L. Holmes, Mabel H. Remington, Louise O. Remington, Alice Buck, Isabelle Fraser,
Louise H. Handy, Elizabeth Johnston, Annie C. Bush, and Lizzie A. Borden." Fall River Evening News, July 27, 1892: 8.
--Charles Anthony was David Anthony's uncle.
I have included a bit more info on this craft in The Hatchet, May/June 2006, pages 29 and 30: "Jay Gould's Yacht."
BTW: Ruby's middle name is spelled "Frances."

WOW! You continue to blow me away Kat! Thank You! I have to subscribe to the hatchet, but I'm waiting a bit since renewals start in January. I want to get the back issues AND Rebello's book, BUT I need a tooth pulled (no insurance), and snow tires first! I still think there was a more direct blurb that directly connected Lizzie to David Anthony but I'm not questioning your sources, you're the expert! The blurbs feel right anyway. What was Blakes Point? Also I know how Frances is spelled, it's my mom's name, that was misspelled in the qoute!
Did you do research with census records, or have you I mean, RE: Ruby Francis Cameron? I found her and her family in the Fall River area, and her father was a butcher....... around 1900. I can't remember the rest. It was a wild story and it makes you wonder if even parts of it were true. You would think that if anyone else was involved in the murder someone would know something and let it slip......... When you analyze everything it really does come down to Lizzie and only Lizzie.....
Thanks,
StevenB

In Arnold Brown's book he mentions a conversation between him and Lewis Peterson about the case. Could a 1985 article have kicked off this discussion and led to the Hathaway memoirs?
A resident of Fall River could look up this in the newspapers of 21 years ago and prepare a topic for this site (short executive report).
Aside from my well-known conviction, is there anything there beyond an old recollection from memory? Saying one thing is not the same as finding documentary proof. (As Arnold Brown might say.)

The first I had become aware of the Ruby story was on this site reading threads started by the poster Gramma. Very interesting, but unfortunately no documentation seemed to surface to verify the story. Some things that were stated seemed rather convincing to me at times. How easily some of us can be swayed though.
Wouldn't it be great to find something somewhere that would answer all of our questions. I have visions of someone rehabbing an old house, or cleaning an elderly relative's attic and finding a wealth of Lizzie information.
Is the "Hatchet" available in hard copy?

I see your quote is from my "Suspect List" at the website:
http://www.lizzieandrewborden.com/Crime ... tsList.htm
I thought your question had to do with the yacht
Mabel F. Swift- hence the source that the boat was owned by David Anthony's uncle Charles, not David Anthony. David owned a motorcycle.
If you look around, as Patsy mentions, you will find posts by "gramma" on Ruby Cameron. We have some news items posted too.
I think there is some census-type info too- unless you'd like to share what you might have?
There is a large portion of a
Hatchet issue devoted to investigating Ruby and her story: Oct/Nov 2004.
I guess I'm not sure if you are asking anything.

Oh BTW: I was referring to the Title of this topic, not the embedded quote, when I mentioned that Ruby's middle name is spelled Frances.
Sorry I was not clear.
That can always be changed, but only by the person who started the topic.
