The Borden murder case wins this poll as Crime of the 19th Century.

I have to disagree. Despite my interest in the Borden case, it pales in importance when comparing it to the Lincoln assassination.

Yes, Harry, but Booth didn't get away with murder.
I think Lizzie would be the unsolved crime of the 19th Century in the U.S. and Jack the Ripper the crime of the 19th Century in the U.K.

Sorry, but I think there is no comparison.

there's no comparison in the sense that the lizzie borden case is the most baffling of the two.
we know what happened during "our american cousin" -- the murder was public.
are you thinking of lincoln's stature in history? that's another subject, isn't it?

The poll was for the Crime of the century. Not whether it was solved or not. We are talking about a crime, not a trial.
The Borden case to me is a Who Done It case and how was it done. I'll let others read into it what they want. If it happened today it would just be another horrible crime.

It sounds like it was based on the crime that most people on that site were more interested in than based on the magnitude of the crime.

I guess us Bordenites are everywhere.
