Looks like TMC was inspired by the 2007 Nancy Drew movie which opens today!
I've never heard of the ones from the thirties either -- but apparently they starred Bonita Granville and you can buy all three for $18.95 at Amazon.com.

I watched parts of them. They were a kick! Whenever a fire started in the town the whole town would come running up and watch! And Ned Nickerson was called "Ted" Nickerson.
And whenever everyone was on the move to another big scene, everyone jumped onto the running boards of the vehicles and off they'd go! Nancy's car- the Roadster- was impervious to her banging into anything and everything.
So funny!
