Say, that is a good picture of Shelley there. "Arty" indeed, and in more ways than one it looks like. "Accusal" is actually a word, having originated ca. 1594, according to Webster!

Hmmm... do I chalk the double post up to technical difficulties, or the fact of the Borden anniversary?? It must be dinnertime.

The Herald news did print a small 2 sentence correction at the far bottom of the 2nd page in the next days issue.
I saw the photo and was dumbfounded! I couldn't believe that there was a photo of someone connected to the Lizzie Borden case that I hadn't seen yet. I looked at the photo for a while and started to believe it could actually be Andrew but then my "photo-sense" kicked in. I looked at the tie that the gentleman was wearing and thought, even if I were generous and dated the man at around 40 years old then that would date the photo to around 1862 if it was Andrew. Men did not wear ties in that style in 1862. The ties were loosely fashoined and the knots were much larger more like an ascot is worn.
Then I called the Herald news and questioned the photo and was told it was a mistake. Boy, some mistake. Where did they dig that photo out of?
The Herald news was sold recently and I have noticed many errors in stories. Not just typos and the like but facts that didn't match up.

Let's hope that the Herald News learns from their mistake.

Just returned home from a rewarding, if somewhat exhausting weekend.
First I must say how grateful I am to the great cast of actors who rallied 'round to produce a new script for the house and donated so much time and energy to make August 4th the success that it was. We had a record crowd of 300, had to turn away, sadly, some folks, and hopefully did some justice to the people and events of Auust 4-5. The media coverage was excellent, following the unfortunate appearance of Mr. Silvia as "Andrew Borden" on Thursday! Channels 12, 10 and 6 have run coverage as well as many newspapers across the state including Providence Journal

the Worcester Gazette, New Bedford Spirit, Herald News and others too numerous to recall. It was a gold star day for the old house, which is why we put all we have into it every year. Tired but happy, we all fell out in the sitting room draped in black last night and thought about- NEXT year. I have many stories and photos to share, coming as soon as I get a shower and some shuteye! Jeff- it was great to see you and to stop by to visit Andrew and Abby and some others in Oak Grove. The Bordens were remembered today.

This may be a dumb question, but in the article in ProJo it says Ms. Goddu stayed at the *Inn* 21 years ago. That would be 1986. I wonder how that happened?

Before bed I will share one favorite. A handsome gentleman suddenly appeared in mid-performance, dressed in deep and perfect Victorian mourning. He was- impeccable! He came over to my chair in front of the "mourners", took my hand tenderly, and rendered a heartfelt speech about how important my dear late father had been to the city, and extended his sincere condolences on behalf of the Wamsutta Mills Board of Trustees! He was magnificent! Right down to the gold watch chain and fob. He assured me, he and the board were at my disposal. poor girl that I was with no man to help advise on things financial. Naturally the visitors and I were breathless. His name in Mr. Hathaway and I understand he was from the Bristol County Tourism Commission and had read the newspaper article and had just appeared. How divine!! I was smitten and wanted to say "Where have you been all my life!"

Another lovely surprise was the young man who once again won the Morse room on ebay ($900 bid!!) and showed us this funny spindle doll of Lizzie which he also got on ebay for $500!! He had with him some great newspapers from the time Lizzie died- he collects 1927 papers.

The doll is made on a factory wooden thread spindle- really creepy eyes.
The maker does other historic figures.
