There is a new play in production about Lizzie Borden. Written and performed by
Jill Dalton, it is called
Lizzie Borden Live.
August 1 to September 1 in Cape May, NJ at the East Lynne Theatre Company.
http://www.eastlynnetheater.org
I think there are quite a few members who are close enough to go see this new play. If you do go, please consider writing a review for
The Hatchet!
Jill will probably join in the discussion here soon, so this is your chance to actually talk to Lizzie!!!! How kewl is that!
Doesn't she look like Lizzie? Here she is at Maplecroft.

Caitlin, do you think you can get me an interview with Jill.
I'm about 90 minutes away from Cape May (I'm in the Trenton area) and could probably come down to see the play the weekend after next. Next weekend I'll be in Fall River.
If I can get an interview with her, I can submit the text of the interview to Stefani for archiving as well as possible publication in the Hatchet. What do you think?

Richard,
Jill Dalton here of Lizzie Borden Live. When do you want to see the show?
I need a date. I'm sure we can find some time for an interview. Jill

Jill,
I would be so honored if you could arrange a date for the play.
I would love to see the show and interview you for the Journal of Lizzie Borden Studies. A write-up of the play would have a long shelf life since the magazine enjoys a healthy sale of back issues.
This weekend coming up I am going to be in Fall River to meet with members of the Forum at 92 2nd St. So it would have to be the following weekend. A Saturday would be ideal since Cape May is a bit of a drive for me (I'm in Lambertville).
So August 25th, either afternoon or evening would be good for me.
I look forward to seeing the show and meeting you.
Richard

Richard,
The 25th looks good. Go on the East Lynne Website
www.eastlynnetheater.org and either email Gayle, the Artistic Director or call her at (609) 884-5898 to make a reservation. She will comp you. Also I think I'll be leaving after the show to go back to New York so it would be best to do the interview around 1 p.m. or so so I can have time to go home and rest and prepare for the show that evening. Hope this works for you.
Peace,
Jill

Jill,
1pm for an interview would work very well for me. At the time we talk, I would not have seen the show yet, so perhaps if you would consent to perhaps a short follow up interview via phone or e-mail in the week or so after I see the show, that would be wonderful.
just tell me where and when and I'll be there with my tape recorder!

Hey Richard,
Gayle cc'd me on the email she sent you re: our interview. So whatever is convenient fo you. Congress Hall is cool. Old southern style structure used to house the southerners as well as Congress when they were down here. Very grand.
Do you know your way around Cap May? Lots of one way streets.
Peace,
Jill

Hi Jill,
I'll be leaving New Hope, PA at about 9:30 in the morning and taking a long drive down the coast by way of Atlantic City. I believe I'll be here by 1pm. I'll look up Congress Hall and figure out how to get there.
You can send me a Personal Message (PM) on this site with cell phone info and I'll do likewise.
Thanks for everything. I look forward to meeting you and seeing the show.

Caitlin,
I am already missing you. You are so great. But OK I guess college is a good enough excuse for you to leave.
Love you,
Jill

If you didn't see my entry in the "popular culture" thread, I will also be seeing the show (after an abortive try last Saturday - thanks, MapQuest) on Saturday, September 1. After the lady I called to make reservations heard my tale of woe, and that I'd be writing about the show on this site, she comped me! My partner Jay, for whom I'm paying, and I are extremely excited to be coming back to Cape May to see your Lizzie.

Bob,
Yes, I heard about the trouble you had trying to find everything. Sorry about that. I'm glad you're coming back down. Be sure and say hello after the show.
Regards,
Jill aka Lizzie Borden Live

I travelled down to Cape May and had the pleasure of meeting Jill as well as Gayle her artistic director and Lee her technical director. I conducted an interview with Jill which I'll write up ASAP and hand over to Stef for the Hatchet.
Then I had the honor of seeing the play and I am tempted to reserve all comments for my review. But at the very least I have to reveal to the Lizzie Borden Forum that this is an amazing portryal of Lizzie. Jill, who wrote the play as well (and researched it along with her director who is a Fall River native!) has created a play and a performance that is authentic and extremely moving. Anyone who has an interest in Lizzie must see this play and I think will have deep feelings for it. And for people who know little about her, the play is responsible, accurate and extremely well researched.
Everything is in here....she has taken a tremendous amount of material and minute detail and condensed it all into 90 minutes of tight drama. It's marvelously structured and gives living breathing life to Lizzie.
For the nitpickers, Jill has taken a few very minor dramatic liberties, but nothing that would really make a big difference. In all, she has done something extremely important for us, and for Lizzie most of all. I'll do a full write up for the Hatchet to accompany the interview.
Bob G. I'd love to hear your impressions when you see the play.

Unfortunately, my trick stomach is acting up, and we're canceling our excursion back to Fall Ri- Cape May this weekend.
Richard, I'm now looking forward even more to your interview and review. Miss Dalton, I'm so sorry not to be able to see you in this engagement and meet you afterwards, but please keep us up on your schedule - and KILL 'EM this weekend!
