These are email addresses. Do you two have web site hyperlinks we can click on or are they email forums, newsgroups?

Maybe I am just dense, but, I don't get it - what is the purpose or function of a yahoo email forum?

Was just about to ask that same question, Judy. Why do you need Yahoo to send an email?

Or is this just your regular Yahoo email account where you use "lizziebordenfans" as your account name?

Well, they're discussion groups just like we are here, Just to provide an example, here's the blurb for a group that I participate in: "Description
Group will debate court cases, legal issues, and news articles related to law/high publicity cases."

Members do have the option to post directly (the very same method we use here, via the web) or they can use emails to participate. To answer your question directly, you don't need a yahoo email account to participate at all; any old email will do.

I checked though, and there are several "Lizzie Borden" related yahoo groups. It's sad, because they're all very small - as few as five members in some cases. We have access to so much more here.

Thanks, Doug, for explaining what the yahoo group email forums are about. My initial reaction is: I don't want to create a yahoo e-mail account to discuss Lizzie Borden nor do want to use my personal e-mail account; I am very careful who I give my personal e-mail address to, especially on the web. It sounds, to me, like a good way to have your e-mail address sold to who knows who and be subject to receive all kinds of unwanted e-mails with or without viruses. Of course, I could be wrong and I intend to keep an open mind until I can hopefully learn more about it.

Out of curiosity - Is there a way for someone like me, to check out these Lizzie Borden groups, or do I need go through an e-mail account to do so? I can't help but wonder why anyone would want to be involved in a discussion group with so few members when they can register with the Lizzie Borden Society forum, where the are experts are - we have so many people who have studied this case for many, many years and know what they are talking about. You are right, Doug, we have access to a gold mine of information here.

Yes, I knew there were LB groups on Yahoo. In fact I was a member of one, may still be for all I know. That was some time ago. I've always had a Yahoo email address although never have used it for entering or receiving Lizzie messages. The email address had nothing to do with the name of the group.

The group I did belong to was quite frankly a mess. Having no moderator to control things it was nothing more than arguments. There was no reason to stay.

Well, it gets wee bit technical but there is a way to hide (or not enter) your email address in those groups. The group I mentioned earlier, the owner is very understanding abuot that sort of thing. As for the other you mention I can only speak from 12+ years of using the internet: Prepare yourself for anything (I could tell you some personal stories of experiences that would I guarantee curl your hair at the very least, they make "Audrey Martin" look like a walk in the blessed park and that's the truth.) You live and you learn.

The best way to get an idea what's going on - pick a group, join for a few days and if you don't like it, you can leave. (When you leave, whatever email address you used disappears from the membership database - and that presumes you've allowed your email address to be visible.) You can in fact hide the email address. I just checked one of the groups I'm in and for two folks it shows (Undisclosed) where the email address should be - so it can be done.

The groups I'm in I almost always post via the web. I don't like spam anymore than anyone else does.

I don't blame you, Harry - It doesn't sound like something I would care to be involved in either.

 That's the reason I always look at the group descriptions really close. Those that say "Unmoderated" I avoid - they're usually nothing but zoos!

This sounds good, Doug. I wouldn't mind trying it if I can hide my e-mail address.

O.K. here is another dumb question: When you say "pick a group", how do you go about doing that? I did a web search with the words 'Yahoo groups Lizzie Borden', but didn't get anything that I thought was what I was lokking for. One of the listings indicated 'Lizzie Borden group', but, when I went into the web site, I got a bunch of porn pics!!! Hmmm - not quite what I was looking for. :shaking:
