"Potter's Point" Photos

Some of you might recall that a few years ago I passed along a "Report from Potter's Point" story I had written about the infamous Harwid murder.
More than twenty years ago I created the fictional town of Potter's Point and wrote about it weekly in three local newspapers,
The Spectator in Somerset and Swansea,
The Chronicle in Dartmouth and Westport, and
The Middleboro Gazette in Middleboro and Lakeville. Those columns appeared from 1984 to 1987.
Then in 2001, I revived Potter's Point in monthly reports in
Navigator, the magazine my wife and I publish.
Last summer, I began to photograph Potter's Point, which is tricky because the place is imaginary. If you'd like to take a look at some pictures, including a couple of the house where Borden and Constance Harwid were beaten to death with a hard, sharp object, probably a quahog, go to
My Potter's Point Flickr Page and take a look. You can click on each photo to see a larger version.

Those are great! Were you *on vacation* when you took these at "Potter's Point?"

I began taking "Potter's Point" photos while on vacation last summer, but the majority of them are from places within a few minutes of home. The pictures I've posted so far are from 8 different communities in three states.

My absolute favorite is the Workshop.
But St. Christopher's Church against that brilliant blue sky is hard to beat -- and I really do love the tractor shot....
Let's face it -- they're all wonderful photos, Chris. Thanks for letting us take a look!

It's near impossible to pick a favorite - I haven't yet picked just one and probably won't - but the one that strikes at the moment is the Worthy residence on Main Street, on account of the gorgeous foliage.

The Harwid house - what else? It's the first 3 letters of my first and last names, and harwid is part of my e-mail address.
Nice photos, Chris!

I was wondering if anyone would notice!
Nice town you live in Harwid!
I remember when you went on that vacation Christopher- I think it kept you away during a lecture in Fall River. I remember being a bit disappointed that you were out of town- but you let me know ahead of time, as I recall.

When we go to New Hampshire, Kat, we try for last week of July or early August because by then the lake has warmed up and it hasn't started cooling off yet. It does tend to coincide with the Borden murder anniversary and the time they book Stef for talks in FR. We've already booked our cabin in Piermont for August 2-9 next year.
A few of the "Potter's Point" shots are in Warren NH, Orford NH, and Fairlee VT just across the river. The rest are in Fairhaven, Dartmouth, New Bedford, Mattapoisett and Rochester MA.
The site of the "Harwid murder" is just a block from my office. (Harry wasn't the only forum member incorporated into that particular story, either. One of the suspects was the illegitimate son. . . Ray.)

Okay, for those of you who missed this the first time around, here's the June 2004 "Report from Potter's Point."
I think you should be able to download it if you click the word Download under the paper clip on the right.

One thing I've noticed about this forum is that the linked text is not emphasized enough by a color change. They can be hard to spot.
