Isaac Hastings? Say, who?

Lincoln, page 54: "Throughout the year before the murders, Uncle John boarded with a friend, Isaac Hastings, in South Dartmouth...."
Was this an error on her part? I can find no other reference to Isaac Hastings anywhere. Could Lincoln have meant Isaac "Butcher" Davis?

Yes I think you are correct. I wonder who fact-checked Ms. Lincoln?

It's weird - along the same lines-I was looking in Prof. Hoffman's book Yesterday In Old Fall River for Mrs. Russell, and noticed another anomaly: He says a photo of "C.C. Russell" appears in Porter's Fall River Tragedy and no info exists anywhere on him, and I looked in my copy(p.183) and he is right the picture is there- but is he really not mentioned anywhere else?

I have not been able to find anything on the C. C. Russell pictured in Porter. The Governor of Massachusetts at the time was a William Russell but he doesn't resemble that photo. See page 154 in Rebello for the Governor's likeness.

I can only guess that C. C. may be a reporter. Porter also shows a photo of a W.T. Billings. He was in charge of the coverage for the Boston Herald. He did send Hickey, a reporter, to cover the case. Hickey testified, Billings did not. Even the Glossary in the Knowlton papers says that information on Billings is hard to find.

Hmmm.
THanks for looking.
I was wondering if this mysterious guy might be Todd Lunday?
Of course, I made that leap after viewing that TV show about the search for the Ark of the Covenant...
