Mozilla released the latest version of it's free browser, Firefox 3.0, on Tuesday.

8.3 million downloads the first day which was possibly a record for any type of software downloaded in one day. 14 million downloads in the first 72 hours.

I've downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. Will wait for the reviews.

I've always been an IE user but I've been planning on going with Firefox as a secondary browser. I have noticed that most browser add-ons I download or buy for browsing don't work with anything but IE.

I think I'll wait to see what bugs and failure features Firefox has designed and installed in this version before I use it. The user's feedback will give me an idea.

I had a friend try to explain to me yesterday what a browser is and what it does but it just will not sink in. The more he explained, the more questions I had the more he explained, till he and I almost lost our minds.

No, no, on a serious note: I was told that the system has a hole in it and it has already been hacked. When I asked my friend he said it was on the news. So, thought I would just run that across to you.

See there, I knew Firefox had at least one built-in failure feature. I'm sure there are more they put into the browser.

Oh come on Michael, a man your age didn't know where babies come from? Haven't you ever heard of a "stork?" When I was about 10 my friends mom told me and him that babies come out through a hole in a woman's leg. Of course I had to turn my face away so she wouldn't see me laugh.

Seriously I'm going to wait and see what problems will be uncovered in Firefox 3.0 before I install. I'm tempted to download Linux but I'm not sure if I can use it as a secondary platform right next to Windows XP or if it will try to overwrite XP. I want to operating systems that I can switch back and forth with rather than having one trying to overwrite the other. It seems when I try to use a program not made by Microopoly, windows goes into hyper-conniption and try's to lay the guilt trip on me with warning pop ups or a refusal to work with the program in some annoying manner.

I'll keep an eye on Firefox. Thanks for the info and links, Harry.

I love Firefox! I heard somewhere that VISTA makes it difficult to have Firefox as your default browser which is one of the reasons I've resisted upgrading my system. Is anyone here using VISTA with Firefox as their default?

I have VISTA and tried to download Firefox about a month ago. It didn't work for some reason. On my computer in Georgia, Firefox was my default browser with no problems at all. But I was using Windows XP at the time.

I've been hearing about this kind of incompatibility. I'd hoped there'd been a resolution of some kind -- but if you tried about a month ago -- it looks like there are still issues. Thanks for the input.

Michael, it's a well know fact that babies are found in cabbage patches and delivered by storks. How do I know? Santa Claus told me when I was a boy. What possible further proof could be asked for.

Thanks for the warning on Firefox. Firefox 3, like any complicated program is bound to have a few glitches. As I said, I downloaded it but will hold up on installing it. Let the more brave-at-heart experiment with it first. I don't need help screwing up my computers. I'm a master at it.
