Lizzie Borden Society Forum

On October 30, 2008 at 7PM at the Brighton Branch of the Boston Public Library, I will be presenting yet another brand new talk titled "Looking For Lizzie: The Mystery and the Myth."

I invite you all to attend!

This talk is free for all and is appropriate for persons of all ages.

Lizzie Borden still fascinates. She still intrigues us mostly because we know very little about her! After her acquittal for the murder of her father and stepmother, she remained in Fall River, Massachusetts, and spoke to no one publicly about the case ever again. A look at the Lizzie Borden story will reveal just how ubiquitous this enigmatic woman has become, over 116 years after she first made headlines.

The talk in Boston/Brighton was a huge success. People kept coming so it was hard to estimate the numbers, but I would say between 50 and 60 in total.

I got to see Kash and Doug and Marylou Parkhurst and met the wonderful folks of the Brighton-Allston Historical Society, the event's co-sponsor.

This was a brand new talk on the case, focusing on separating the myth from the mystery, with a few fun clips thrown in for good measure.

On Thursday Marilou and I drove to Boston (Brighton) for Stefani's new presentation at the Brighton Branch of the Boston Public Library. This was the best program yet of the several we have enjoyed! Over almost two hours Stefani separated Lizzie fact from fiction and illustrated the same with an entertaining and informative slide/audiovisual presentation. A sample of areas covered included: did Lizzie Borden really take an axe and give her mother forty whacks...?; was Andrew Borden a "miser" and the richest man in town?; was August 4, 1892, the hottest day of the year in Fall River?; was the house at 92 Second St. really a narrow, cramped, stifling place to live? Of course, many more facts/fictions surrounding Lizzie and the murder case were addressed as well. There was plenty of audience participation and give and take, too, and Stefani gave generous time at the end for questions and answers. Bottom line - if you have an opportunity to see this "Looking for Lizzie" presentation sometime in the future don't miss it.

Last but not least, it was great to have a chance to see and visit with Stefani, Michael B., and Kash once again!
