Lizzie Borden Society Forum

I live in Bucksport, Maine hometown of Edwin Buck one of Lizzie's Ministers. I remember vaguely reading the original articles in 84-85 on Ruby Cameron, in the Ellsworth American Newspaper. I was a Freshman in High School and had unfortunately other things more important, at the time. The Ellsworth American is a local paper, and I can kick myself for not clipping it. I intend to order the back issue from which the story was covered in the Hatchet. In the meantime, I have gone on a newspaperarchive hunt for the original articles. Reading down through the extremely helpful forum topics on the Ruby angle, they mention that the story broke nationwide. I know the articles will be on microfiche and intend to chase after it after I exhaust my hunt, online. It does seem like every angle and shred of information has been covered in this forum and online. I wish some of the local mysteries had every bit as interest behind them. This is a good and impressive forum.

When you describe how uninterested you were at the time in the Ruby story, I have to admit it reminds me of Victoria Lincoln when she says how her grandfather told her Lizzie's story- at an age when I find it very hard to believe she had any interest at all in anything other than boys and Cotillions! And her grandfather did not live much past that time.

I think it's rather normal of you to think there were other things more important!
We did find a lot of news items on the Ruby story and the Hatchet had to pay to reprint the American item and with permission.

Is this perhaps the article? Do you have the date of the article that you remember?

The Ellsworth American, Ellsworth, ME, Jan. 2, 1985:
"A Solution to the 1892 Crime? : Ruby Cameron Says David Anthony Murdered Lizzie Borden's Parents."

All I found on it was the name of the paper and the date of this one article about David Anthony. I will keep looking for the article though, I'd be interested in reading it, too.

I can't seem to get around that the articles were in 84 and 85. The Paper comes out once a week, and for such a story to not be run with in 84, does seem a little suspect. But then again they certainly weren't a day apart because of the once a week.
Kind of an enigma, a mystery wrapped up in a riddle.

Did I make a miss-type in the post, as to the date & year? Do you have the link?

Ruby died that same year, 1985.

Yep it's the 85 article. I sent a email to the Ellsworth Library. Unfortunately they sent a 2 page photocopy of the article for 5 bucks, without replying to the email first. After reading the article and the dozens of examples of miss-information, kind of soured me investigating Ruby any further. Not one to point out faults, the kind that actually brought me to tears, and slapping my forehead cursing myself for bringing up the question in the first place. Ah Dr. Ruby may you rest in peace.

I was looking at my "Joe" file a bit ago and in one article Ruby said she was no longer sure it was Lizzie's house she visited as a child with David Anthony.

BTW: I checked Ruby's creds at Chapel Hill and 2 Registrars were looking for her Doctorate for me & Joe and the answer was Ruby was not a graduate or Doctorate there.

Well, I think it's pretty cool that you are looking for things. Not many do, or can, or find they have the time.

Joyce Wiliams, Ph.D., did see a photo of Ruby in her nursing uniform, at Ruby's house, at least.

Maybe you could verify if Ruby ever nursed for Eleanor Roosevelt?

Ruby was quickly crossed off the list. It took a little longer with the Jefferson Borden Mutiny. Pulled the plug on that one, when I read the entire mutiny trial transcript, with no mention of Andrew, anywhere. The more I check and track down leads, the more they are quickly being ruled out. It doesn't look good for Miss Borden. Oh, wait a minute, she already was acquitted, what am I doing? Thought I had a winner with the Manchester Axe Murder, unfortunately he wasn't even in the country, at the time of the Borden 2 step. Ah, such is life...and death!

Just my opinion, but I doubt that Ruby ever nursed Eleanor Roosevelt ...
