All the recent stuff about victorian pasts made me check out a great ancestral website that someone has put together over the years for Tioga County, Pennsylvania where my father grew up. I came across these pictures from that area and just had to share them. They are SO from that age I am just dazzled by them.

I really feel we have lost so much beauty over the past century or so!

We have lost alot, with the new public buildings looking horrible. EG--New courthouse in Fall River.
I miss the old buildings that look like it took time, planning & patience and they were beautiful to look at and functional as well.

Gorgeous, Angel. I thought they were mesmerizing. I agree with you, Nadz. Right now they are tearing down the last of Tiger Stadium in Detroit. I know it doesn't compare in beauty to so many of our lost Victorian homes and buildings. But it was such a piece of history. It is damned sad to see it go.

Are they going to tear down the old courthouse in FR and/or the Customs House?

Isn't it great how an old photograph can evoke so many emotions, and thoughts ? Imagine some of our ancestors who hated that kind of architecture, and would rather have had a square brick home.

On a side note, I didn't care "overly" much for modern 1960's Atomic when I was a fussy teen, but now, I love it. It takes a few decades under our belts, and losing some of these treasures to awaken our awareness and appreciation to a greater degree.

As I was reading this thread I was overcome with appreciation for all of you on this forum. When I come across something like these pictures and tell other people about them I see their eyes glaze over, or they humor me. I am so glad I have found a group of people on this site that really do appreciate and want to share in the beauty and interest I have in such things. You guys are great!

Angel, the pictures are truly beautiful. It certainly makes one dream of the life a wealthy Victorian Lady could enjoy.
