The SAW Movies

A while back, I saw the original "Saw" movie at the movie theatre. I thought it was very creative and original, and for once a "horror movie" really was one. Horror is not my favorite category of film, because it seems they all fall short - the effects look fake, the plot is unbelievable or it's been done, and done, before.
Before I knew it, here come the sequels, II, III, and IV. I bought 1, 2 and 3 on a 'director's cut, unrated' DVD set and IV by itself.
Now my daughter said that you don't have to watch them in order. Well, I guess not. But the storyline does carry on from film to film. So I would.
I haven't gotten into Saw IV yet, but the first three are goooooood. They have actual plots, and the sequels make sense why they are sequels to the first one. I watched them on my laptop, and I found them to be pretty powerful films. I was gripping the sides of the computer and uncharacteristically making verbal horrified exclamations.
They are gory. Very gory. They make you think. It's hard to think you know what's going to happen next. Full of surprises. I think they're worth buying on DVD because there are so many twists and turns, I think they're re-watchable. When something gory happens, you don't just get a quick glimpse of it. With these DVDs, you get the full long view of it. If you are okay with gore, these are the most interesting horror movies I've seen. If gore bothers you, stay away.
