The Final Destination

My 17 year old son and I saw "The Final Destination" in 3-D the other day. I didn't really want to see it, because there's been another movie (my son says there are several) with this same plot: A person foresees a major catastrophe. He warns some to leave the area before it happens. It happens, and the survivors - the ones who would have been killed if they hadn't listened to the clairvoyant one - die one by one afterwards by some supernatural force.
I planned on seeing "District 9", but when we got to the movie theatre the board said it didn't start for an hour. Okay - 3D? That was its saving grace in our decision.
It was the last day for free popcorn, so all I snuck in was a cold peach flavored water. My son suddenly didn't like any of the drinks I brought (tho he's guzzled enough diet drinks at home when he's out of regular), so he got a large Pepsi for four bucks plus tax. Ugh. It does have "free" refills, but I don't know if they give you a new cup or not, and you might end up struggling with the old, by-then floppy one.
The movie was like it's described in the first paragraph - complete with no real surprises and not even an attempt at tweaking the plot. But the 3D - that was great! In one part, a snake seemed to come right at you, which sent me sinking low in my seat. Airborne things sailed at you, and when something was burning in one scene you'd swear the glowing ashes were floating around in the dark theatre.
You had to pay two bucks more to see this movie, and you had to return the 3-D glasses. They were not the usual paper ones; these were like sunglasses. It was well worth the price and we really enjoyed it - but only because of the 3-D effects.
They showed a preview of the upcoming Jim Carrey movie of yet another making of Dickens' "Christmas Carol", coming in November. I was planning on going to see it anyway, to see how Jim Carrey played the role of Scrooge. But I didn't know it was gonna be in 3-D. It looked like it was snowing in the theatre! Oh, yeah. I'm goin' - KFC and all.
