Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member but have been reading your forum for a month, ever since I happened to visit Fall River. What a lovely place! I've always been interested in the Borden case and was glad when I spotted Fall River on the map as we were actually looking for a route to go from Cape Cod to Sturbridge. I said, let's stop in Fall River, it's right on our way. Anyway, I very much enjoyed the Borden house tour and the FR historical society so much that as soon as I got back home I searched the web and up you popped. It's nice to be here.

Hi DoGeeseSeeGoD,
Thank you! By all means go by the Borden house when you get a chance, esp if you're a cousin!

Im a cousin, but not close. Lots of lines of relation though, and a few family members married closer in -(an uncle way back married to Lizzies 3rd cousin). My mothers family has lived in that area for more than 400 years. They settled in Portsmouth RI. I still havent researched all the ties to that family yet. My lines of Bordens and Dufree's moved out that way early in the settling of Fall River and then came back to Portsmouth.

I have a good friend from high school whose 80 yr-old father is a "Joseph Tetrault" from Newport, R.I.. I recently met his sister.
I asked her if she knew a "J.T." had been Lizzie Borden's chauffeur. She screwed up her face into a lemon-eating look and refused to speak to me. And she's from Newport! I think that generation just still wants to forget Lizzie Borden!

The older genration of locals doesnt have the same fascination with it as we do. It was a gruesome crime, and relation to Lizzie and anything to do with it, for them isnt a good thing!
My granduncle John still lives in Newport, i am sure they know of the events, family raltions and such. I dont think if i asked him anything about Lizzie Borden or family relations to them that I would get anything out of him but smiles and avoidance of answers.
I have asked my mother if anything was ever said in the past, but she said they say nothing, just seem to know something, but always had evasive answers.
I think there still is a reason not to tie yourself into relation to Lizzie Borden. People still have fear of her. That somehow, you suffer from some family abnormality. It still persits to this day. Back then, im sure even worse.
