Suz--do a search for "harpoon" at top of page. You'll find a long discussion which includes the prussic acid shooting harpoon. This was one scary weapon to the whalemen.

Okay, thank you for letting me know nbcatlover. My apologies for repeating a past topic, honestly I try so hard not to do that, in fact I've been paranoid I would, but failed anyway

I imagine someone already posted about the 19 blows, too and that's why nobody's responded to that post? I'll just delete them. I lurked here a long time before getting up enough courage to apply for membership and was so excited to post myself and be a part of the group but it's really all been said before and I'm still an outsider

I wish I could have been here back then with you all when you were learning together, I can tell you all had so much fun. I just posted that the other day in the Tea room. You older members rock!

Heavens, don't worry about repeating a topic. There isn't much of anything on this forum that we haven't discussed before and its always good to resurrect things again. Who knows what may have been learned since we last talked about it.
You need not have removed your post. I'm sure nbcatlover's post was a friendly response directing you to where it had been discussed before and that you may want to read that discussion.

Harry is right, Suzie. All threads, old or new, are fair game for responding to. I do it all the time. If the older threads were not important they would have been removed or locked. Many newer members were not around when the older threads were made so it's all new information to them. Bringing them up gets our thinking juices going again and that is the reason for us all to be here in the first place. I have brought up old threads on other forums and had a member make a crack remark about how old the thread is, but so what? My brain seems to compress time. What happened 40 or 50 years ago happened yesterday to me so I don't look at things as happening a long time ago. Mary Poppins hit the big screen yesterday. JFK was shot yesterday. I went to see The Great Race yesterday, etc. Sometimes I will be the only one on this forum late at night moling around the archives looking at interesting information on this case. When I see something interesting I bring it up again not paying attention to how old it is. Using the Search feature is a big help in finding stuff. If you have a question and can't find the answer, or discovered some new information, then bring up the thread again or start a new one. We're all here to learn. Welcome aboard and have fun!

Suz=I didn't want you to feel bad. I just thought you might like to read more about the topic since you didn't seem to be getting any response. Shelley posted a lot of information, including a short film, on Eli Bence, the pharmacist, who identified Lizzie as the person requesting the prussic acid. I personally question his identification. I also remember reading somewhere (I don't remember the source right now) that a police officer's wife was going around to pharmacies to see if they were selling poisons and that she looked a lot like Lizzie.

Thanks everybody, I certainly appreciate the encouragement! I have to say I'm a bit intimidated by the more experienced members, but I'll get over my inner Cowardly Lion, and have more courage

I always like topics coming back up again. Sometimes, someone brings up another way of looking at the particular subject that might not have been looked at..

We were all new here once.
Repeating subjects reminds me of some stuff I forgot, and I'll go, "Oh, yeah. That did happen like that!"
I usually always learn more by a repeat subject.
