Has anyone been following this case or trial that began this week? My mother was from Bristol, Connecticut, which is in that area, and I still have relatives there. It's just hard to understand our justice system sometimes when these monsters were caught at the scene of the crime. And now, there will be two probably lengthy trials for each defendant. And if they do get the death penalty, it'll be years spent in prison with the appeal process. I empathize with Dr. Petit and his family.

Just reading about it makes one sick. I don't know whether Connecticut has the death penalty but if there ever was a case for quickly using it, this is it.

There are similarities to the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas which Truman Capote wrote so well about in In Cold Blood.

Kansas had the wisdom to hang those murderers. Connecticut does have the death penalty, by injection. That's way too easy for these two.

My family is from western Kansas and my Dad knew some of the Clutter relatives. I've never been to Holcomb, where they lived. It's across the state from the KC metro area. I do remember Smith & Hickok's execution. I guess there are some similarities in both cases. Both towns quiet and peaceful, an unlikely place for crime. Each house was accessed through an unlocked door. I know the folks in Holcomb were very careful with home security afterwards.

Forgot to mention I'm an Olathe resident since 1969 (aside from 4 years in Georgia), where Smith got a hotel room after they returned from their murderous night. Hickok was from Edgerton, a town about 5 miles from here.

One down, one to go. Hayes was sentenced to death. Why did it take the jury 18 hours to decide that? It would have taken me 10 seconds, if that.

I just read the news. Glad he got the death penalty, but imagine how long he's going to be on death row. I believe next year the younger mastermind of this horrific nightmare gets his trial. Hopefully, the jury then will be much quicker with their verdict.

What galls me is that until those two morons are dispensed with, they're breathing OUR oxygen.
