Ringing in the New Year

I got to thinking. I am wondering how Lizzie brought in the New Year. I wonder, when Andrew and Abby were alive, how did the family bring in the New Year. As much as Andy was tight with his money, the family probably didn't do to much. I think LIzzie might have after she got to Mapblecroft. Just gussing on that though.

I think that's a good question, Snokkums. I don't know. I could guess that Andrew either felt good or bad, depending on his balance sheet on December 31. Apparently there were New Years' postcard greetings then. Here is a site that has a bunch of Victorian ones:

That is where I found the one I'm posting. I certainly wish everyone here a safe, healthy and great New Year.

I like that attachment and the link. Guess we have a different way of celebrating New Years day then they did back in the 1800's. Had a great New Year.

Middle- and upper-class Victorians would not have used the New Year as an excuse for drunkenness and debauchery. Maybe a sip of something and good wishes to all. Maybe no celebration at all, which is what happens in our house because it's such an arbitrary holiday.

Yeah, I kind of figured Lizzie and family would be that way. For me personally, I don't drink at all. so that rules the drunkennes and debauchery. Usually the New Years day is spent over at the church visiting with my church family, playing board games and eating finger foods, generally having a good time. And noone gets killed in a drunk driving accident.

We do have fun, and it's shows everyone you can have a good time without drinking. But, you know we Mormons don't drink anyway. Guess it shows eveyone else.

Didn't know you were a Mormon, Snokkums. I belonged to the Church for about 10 years. I drifted away after my divorce, then married an Irish Catholic. I see the missionaries down here in South Florida on occasion. I always invite them in if they come to my door and give them a cold drink and a snack!

I"M a convert the church. I was raised Roman Catholic, though. Most Wisconsinites are either Catholic or Lutheran, not many Mormons,
