Why not just move?

I have always wondered why Lizzie never moved out of Fall River after trial. After all, the whole town pretty much shunned her. Who wants to be friends with an accused axe murderer, even if she was aquitted.

But, I think I have found the answer to my own question. I was reading an article from the Lizzie Borden Sourcebook called "Lizzie Bordens ambition". One of the4 few people who kept a friendshiop with her, even after the trial, made the suggestion that she should move to a new town. Yup, pull up stakes, start new where no one knew her. But Lizzie replied that she would never do so. She said she had one great ambition in live, which she stated as follows, " Whne the truth comes out abvout the murders, I want to be living here so I can walk down town and meet those of my old friends who have been cutting at me all these years."

I guess she really did know what people were thinking and saying about her. It's no wonder why she was pretty much of a recluse after the trial. Such a said life.
