I have always wondered how Lizzie would have celebrated mothers day if her mother was alive. And how she celebrated after her mothers death. How did she remember her mother after her death. I know she probably didn't to much for Abby, she didn't care for the woman.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Since there was no such holiday until years after the murders (1908) she wouldn't have.

And two years later in 1910 the Hallmark Company came into existence.

Snooks I have ALWAYS loved your post. You have always thought outside the box. I don't know about Mothers Day, but I'm sure Lizzie loved her mom, even if she couldn't remember her. Do not EVER let the "little things" here get in your way. I'm sure she thought of her mom often. THX for being a friend!!

Given that there was a Mother's Day, I doubt that Lizzie would've been into it that much. Thoughtfulness of that sort is learned at a young age. That kind of frivolity would not have been high on the list in Andrew's house. He was not a sentimental man, and he pretty much controlled the household.

I expect Emma talked about Sarah to Lizzie throughout her childhood. Don't know whether Andrew did much, though. The sisters probably visited the grave and left flowers. Both of them were alive after Mother's Day began to be celebrated, and Emma almost certainly thought of her mother then. I just think Lizzie was too young when Sarah died to have much of an image of her, apart from what she was told.
