It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that dear, dear Ellen Smith (known to us as Angel) has passed away after a very short illness. She was only recently diagnosed with brain cancer and it was very fast in her case.

She announced her trip to the hospital, her biopsy, and diagnosis real time on FaceBook. It was hard to read, but her courage in facing her future was remarkable.

I have been lucky to meet her and spend some quality time when she came to Fall River. She always loved my dog and every time I posted an image of him she would react.

I know she will be missed by loads of folks, and many of you here.

Stefani, thank you for posting this very sad news. Ellen was such a good friend, who had a big heart. She and I talked on the phone and exchanged emails several times, and we found out that we had a lot in common.

Do you recall a thread authored by mbhenty, titled facebook...... ? In that thread I posted my opinion of facebook, and wrote the following (partial) paragraph (Underlining and highlighting have just been added in the post):

… I have been invited to join Facebook by three people; the last invitation I received was from a friend of mine. When I received this invitation, I just happened to scrolled down to the middle of it and found a section titled, See who else has invited you to Facebook. There is listed the other two people who have invited me to join Facebook. Then, I scrolled down to the bottom of this invitation, where I found a section titled, Other people you may know on Facebook. There I find seven people listed, and to my surprise, I know all seven of them!!! Ellen was that member.

I thought my post went through. If it has please forgive the repetition. I too will miss Ellen's posts on facebook. May she RIP.

I just found out now. I'm truly shocked! I will miss her terribly.
