Do you think the murder hatchet handle was made longer ?

Say for example -if someone put the handle in a vice that was in the barn, snapped off the handle - THEN - stuck on a longer handle making it about 3 feet long ?
Then after -put the bloodless small wooden piece back in the cleaned hatchet head and set the handle back in the box ?
