Lizzie Borden and Delores Delight

A recent video on YouTube is quite entertaining. It is a modern recording of Delores Delight performing “You Can’t Chop Your Papa Up in Massachusetts.”

The information on the video is as follows: “Showing off her character skills, Dolores tells us exactly why Miss Borden did just that… Created for Ministry of Burlesque’s Victorian Values.”

The song is well done, but a little slow for my taste. It is not that I am used to a faster version, but the comedy of the song works better at a quicker tempo. You really don’t want to give people time to think about what they are hearing—they might find it particularly unfunny when they really hear the words. Faster, the audience is charmed by the idea of the song. Just my two cents, of course.
