Maplecroft's porch.

The Back Porch at Maplecroft

More changes, for the better, have come to Maplecroft. The new owner has decided to rightfully sock some big bucks into refurbishing Lizzie Borden’s back porch. The transformation has taken a few weeks, with days off for rain, but today the finishing touches have been applied.

The spindles are made of cedar and are of very high quality. The porch posts have been refitted and enlarged and attached properly—this time around. And the all-important railing has been added to the steps leading to the back door (which includes all but one step being replaced).

The crew of workers were quite experienced and friendly. This Borden girl is happy with the results. I hope you are as well.

Next up, I hear, is painting, including a traditional blue ceiling for the porch (a New England thing).  More updates as that occurs.

Here are some images from the first day to last.

Mondo Lizzie Borden, Episode 7: NOT Lizzie Borden

Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.

Here we go. Enjoy.
