There are only thirteen authenticated photographs of Lizzie Borden taken in her lifetime. There is an addition one or two that are still being examined and investigated as being authentic. But these are the only true images of Lizzie Borden we have to date.
Unfortunately, people do try to pass off fake Lizzie Borden images as real on eBay. Every day, actually. And over the years I have seen so many that I even created a section of my website, LizzieAndrewBorden.com, for Fake Lizzie Borden images that have been advertised as her for profit. And some of these NOT Lizzie’s, clearly labeled on my site as not her, have appeared in books, on documentaries, book covers, websites, and advertisements. They are oh so wrong to do this without getting some verification on their “finds”—but alas, they do not. Which, of course, makes me question EVERYTHING they say about the case. Of course, you cannot trust these authors and bloggers if they are that ill-informed.
Being a collector of the weird and fabulous as it relates to the Borden case, I have files of these images saved during the past twenty years. And I would like to share them with you now. Laugh, gasp, chuckle, or rage, these photos were all on eBay. For a price. I used to write the sellers and let them know they didn’t have a Lizzie, but soon gave up on that practice. They didn’t care. Even though they were committing fraud by the sale of the image as a true Lizzie Borden. Oh well.
