At a very early hour this morning, I was awakened by the sound of what I thought was road construction. The city of Fall River has been digging up the streets of late to lay pipe, so my thinking that the commotion was some concrete digger\/scraper seemed reasonable. But this was not the case.<\/p>\n

Instead, I found that the new owners of Maplecroft were in the process of cutting down two of Lizzie Borden’s last remaining maple trees. One of them was most decidedly dead, but the other appeared healthy but was leaning toward Maplecroft’s garage. I have no criticism of any of this as it made for a very exciting morning! However, the outside of our house is SO different now. Gone are the leaves and shade that forever offered a canopy over the back yard. It is like another world out there. Probably the only complainants will be the squirrels and raccoons and birds that made these trees their home.<\/p>\n

Maple trees have a life of about 75-100 years, so these two were considered aged.<\/p>\n
