Painting the Borden House

Post by Stefani »

Some news from Fall River.

The Lizzie Borden B&B is no longer a B&B. They are now an INN and are marketing themselves as The Lizzie Borden House.

Guests pay ahead and then receive an access code for self check in. There is no night manager. Your stay does not include a tour at night. If you wish to tour the house you have to go to one during the day and pay for that (extra, not included in your room rate). Breakfast is extra ($20), if you want it.

According to one recent visitor: "Whatever you know about the case when you check in, is the same information you leave with." Sad.

Oh, and they House recently decided they KNEW the drab color the house was originally and repainted it. And added a WHITE TIN ROOF. There was a leak in the roof and damage was done to Bridget's room, which is need of repair now.

Here are the images they posted today on Facebook. Before and afters.

Enjoy

If you stay in a room, are you allowed to wander the first floor at your leisure? That would be better than getting a tour. When I visited the house, the tour guide provided as much faulty as accurate information about the crime.

Color is subjective.

Maplecorft will be yellow.

Now I like yellow. It is one of my favorite colors. I once ordered a new Yellow Corvette. In general,I like it as an accent color in other environments or things, such as clothing. But not one of my favorite colors for a house, unless it is pale yellow.

Just like Green. I like a green house, but not a green car. Mauve is one of my favorite indoor decorating color... mauve chair, mauve curtains, mauve pillows. I have worn Mauve colored clothing. But I would never want a mauve car or mauve siding on my house. (Wait! Maybe that would look nice? Hmmm?)

So you see, color is very subjective and I can be very radical in its use. And the color they used for Maplecorft is indeed close to or a historical tone. Victorians used all sorts of yellows. However, Maplecorft was never yellow.

Now, I hope they are going to use an accent color to tame the almost school Bus Yellow..., like green, on all the trim. A dark green. This would tone down some of the yellow.

In conclusion, I think it looks awful. Especially since Maplecroft was never Yellow. Not exactly the same color as a school bus, but close enough to be displeasing. At least to me. Especially since it is Maplecroft. And Maplecroft was never yellow.

Did I mention Maplecroft was never yellow?
