August 4th - The 133rd Anniversary

Post by camgarsky4 »

Netflix is planning a series on Lizzie Borden for the 4th season of the "Monsters" 'true crime' show. Sounds like the filming will begin this fall and will be available for viewing next summer! With technology nowadays, seems like they could use the real Borden house and have technology recreate the surrounding neighborhood and locations.

Sure hope they avoid blatant inaccuracies, but have fun with their speculation.

I hope it is OK to post this here.Today's Fall River Herald News, because of the 133rd anniversary, has an article that is basically a summary of the case and links to movies, books, tours and podcasts. The article provides general info, much of which is already familiar to members of this board, but the roundup of recent podcasts on the Borden case is interesting.

If the Netflix series about Lizzie is going to be anything like the other installments of the Monster series, it will definitely play fast and loose with the facts, and make use every possible lurid thing ever suggested in connection the Borden murders. The screenwriters would be shirking their duty if they didn't. I am sure there will be everything from pigeon massacres to lesbian sex (I did read they had cast a Nance O'Neil character, so yeah). Not necessarily a bad thing, I was wildly entertained by the Ed Gein installment, and it did cause me to go looking for the "real" story. So I expect what Stefani Koorey said in that article you attached is correct, it will be viewed by more people than have viewed any other Lizzie Borden thing ever, and I am sure many people will end up here reading these posts. I care about accurate information being represented about the Borden case (or any criminal case really), which is one reason I have felt the urge to start posting and asking questions....

Agree.

Upside - The Netflix series will re-spark interest in the Borden case.
Downside - Odds are they will lean into the purely speculative spicey aspects of the case.
