There's a posting on eBay that is of a doll. The listing says maybe it's Lizzie Borden. It focuses its ad on Lizzie and says "scary" stuff about the doll. It's ridiculous.

Bob. Well, I guess the only good thing that can be said is that more people know something about Lizzie than is usually expected.

I know that doll well (not that particular example, but she has 30,000,000 clones). I also know a guy from doll shows who worked for a company (Spencer Gifts) that imported them from Asia in the 1970s and 80s. The wholesale price was incredibly cheap. I often go into antique malls and see examples decorating the various booths. Some of the less sophisticated dealers actually think it's an antique. I've seen her so often that I've given her a name. It isn't Lizzie Borden, though. It's "Elspeth." If I'd had a trying day doing the malls and hadn't found anything I could resell, and if I was asked, "Find anything?" I would respond with a black look: "Nothing but Elspeth." That meant, "Leave me alone."

speaking of dolls, I have begun a project to make
a dollhouse for my grandbaby that is a replica of
the house I grew up in, my Dad is helping me and
has gotten some old folks at his nursing home and the "woodworking dept" interested. We won't tell
Nya or Dad the Lizzie connection. Yesterday morning I met Dad at his local Flea Mkt and we saw
a plastic dollhouse (ugh) but it had some wonderful
stuff in it that I wanted, like the old claw bathtubs,
sewing machine, little irons, a wood/coal cook stove
like we used to have. I oohed and aahed, (I'm not a good poker face bargain person) and asked how much? 50 dollars. No way. Dad said "offer her 20"
and I said "you do it, I can't". Long story short, she
said NO, nothing less than 35. I left Dad, went home, and he called me later to say he got the dollhouse for 30. Gotta Love My Dad! We will make Nya the best dollhouse!

Cool Nancie. Maybe you can mass produce them and sell a couple if it turns out well, I wouldn't mind having one myself

Well I bet she will love it. Especially if she knows it is the house you grew up in. You can tell her stories of things that happened there. Really cool gift.

Wow - interesting information on that doll, Edisto! So you "know" her! In the photo, it does look like it could be antique. That seller was sickening - danged near fraudulent. It's too bad some people do that stuff.

Bob, you'd make Emma Borden laugh during church. I got some stupid headcold and you made me feel better.

Nancie, what a thoughtful gift! (Did haunted stuff happen in your house? The other posts around you sound like something did.) That's going to be treasured by Nya - and handed down.

I made - well, re-finished - a dollhouse for my daughter when she was five. I never thought to make it look like my house. I hope you remember to post pictures.

Oh yes Augusta I will post pix but don't hold your
breath, this will be a long project! I figure I have
about 3 years before Nya will even enjoy her wonderful dollhouse from her Great-Grampa and Me It is something that really excites me though and I will be looking for dollhouse furniture constantly!
