Lizzie's expectations...

Assuming she was independently guilty of the crime, do you think she expected to be charged and tried?

I think by Saturday, when the Mayor told her she was a suspect, was when she knew. I think she had a feeling prior to that because she said she was ready to go when he stated that to her face and family. Yet she hadn't yet burned that dress - not until the following morning, Sunday- so her *ready-to-go* comment might have been a bluff. If she was bluffing, then maybe she still didn't really believe it?

I have always felt that Lizzie originally didn't expect to be charged with anything. As Kat posted, once the Mayor made it clear that she was indeed a suspect, she probably still didn't believe it was possible and that she would straighten them out. She must have been sadly shaken after the warrent was issued for her and the Inquest was held. Wasn't it right around that time that Lizzie's showy breakdowns started happening, not the day of the murders, but then.
