At the inquest Lizzie said this about Abby :
" She said she had been up and made the bed up fresh, and had dusted the room and left it all in order. She was going to put some fresh pillow slips on the small pillows at the foot of the bed, and was going to close the room, because she was going to have company Monday and wanted everything in order"
After reading this I'm wondering about the whole kneeling thing. If all you are doing is putting on pillow slips then you don't have to kneel. You can stand up and do that. On the other hand, I can't help but notice how Abby's butt appears to be somewhat up. At least in that photo. As if she had been kneeling then fell forward.
Also, I looked at the photo that was posted and I tried to imagine grabbing Abby by the waist and just lifting her back up on to her feet. It looks like if you did she'd be standing at the very end of the bed. Maybe even a little bit back of it.
I'm not really clear on the whole pillow sham thing and some of the stuff you guys are posting about I didn't know. Such as the scarf. Are we talking about a women's scarf you wear on your head to go outside? And what handkerchief? I'm missing some info here. Could someone help me out, please,?
Just a thought, could the lack of blood on the pillow sham be because it was more under her chest than her head? Maybe the blood just didn't reach down that far. I was under the impression the first blow killed her thus, stopping the heart and blood flow.

They said her top was soaked with blood down to her chemise. Anything under her then would probably be soaked.
The *handkerchief* is to what we refer.

In the video it looked as big as a scarf. And was silken-looking and had a pattern.
Bridget said that Abby used Andrew's old handkerchiefs to do dusting sometimes.
Trial
Bridget
Bridget Sullivan was re-called on ........
Q. (By Mr. Moody.) This handerkerchief was not here, or under our control at the time the witness was on the stand. Have you seen such a handkerchief as that before? (Showing dark, old handkerchief.)
A. Yes, sir.
Q. What was it commonly used for and by whom?
A. Mrs. Borden used to use handkerchiefs the same as dusters is.
Q. Did she use it as a pocket handkerchief?
A. Mr. Borden used them as pocket hankerchiefs, and Mrs Borden, when they got worn out, took them as dust rags.
--------
Morse did not recall Abby as wearing anything on her head that morning, nor did Bridget.
I would think this pillow sham at the FRHS was from the head of the bed.
The handkerchief was described to us as having been found with the hairpins in, meaning it's thought Abby had it on her head to protect her hair while cleaning, I guess.
It's thought that Abby was standing nearer to the window (as you describe) because there was blood on the mop-board by the window.
Also, there was a rocking chair between the bureau and the window and a camp chair by the head of the bed.
I never thought Abby's butt was up in the air but others have thought so.
The first blow was to her face, standing facing, according to the testimony. That was a glancing blow, at the scalp, and so she must have reeled around and away to land with her head at the west wall. So the first wound did not kill.

At my end they are so out of proportion that I can't tell what I'm looking at. The picture posted before clicking on it is small and has nice detail and when I click on the pic it's 4x bigger than my screen.doug65oh @ Sat Aug 27, 2005 12:02 am wrote:"...at my end your photos are gigantic!"
so...what's wrong with gigantic? these aging eyes need all the help they can get!!"The better to see you with..." (sorta)
Is it only me?

Sherry just recently sent us a copy/attachment of this photo she took of our Doug Parkhurst and myself in part of the archive room at the FRHS.
There are several rooms downstairs.
This was taken on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005.
